1955 Gibson Country Western, Serial Number W1923 10

This 1955 Gibson Country Western is a stunning first-year example of one of our golden-era flat-tops. Introduced in 1955 to offer players a natural-finished alternative to the Southern Jumbo, the Country Western paired the same proven slope-shoulder dreadnought design with a natural finish and the model's distinctive "Country Western" soundhole label. This example retains the oversized first-year pickguard, which extends to the edge of the soundhole and partially covers the rosette, a short-lived feature found only on early examples of the model.

This guitar remains in exceptionally clean condition throughout. The natural finish exhibits only mild lacquer checking and very little additional wear to note. The headstock corners are crisp and the original "Country Western" soundhole label with its rope border remains fully intact and as charming as ever. The mahogany back displays beautiful three-dimensional ribbon figure, complemented by a nicely grained spruce top. The original Kluson® Deluxe no-line tuners show remarkably little tarnishing or wear, though the tuner buttons have been replaced with appropriate white buttons. A small cleat is present at the edge of the pickguard above the soundhole, a common repair on Gibson acoustics fitted with this larger style of pickguard. No additional repairs are present. Aside from a small, black marker touch to the bass-side ear on the face of the peghead, there is no finish touch-up present.

The Medium C mahogany neck remains comfortable in hand. The neck has never been reset, yet the guitar continues to play very well. Its original small, vintage frets remain in good condition with minimal playwear, and the binding nibs are still largely intact and clearly visible throughout the fretboard.

Tonally, this Country Western delivers the round, mid-forward voice that has made our mid-1950s slope-shoulder acoustics so enduringly popular. Warm and woody throughout, it offers strong bass response, clear mids, and the dry, fundamental-rich character associated with a well-preserved, mid-1950s Gibson flat-top.

The guitar ships in a new Gibson Deluxe Protector Dreadnought case and includes its original Lifton® Brown/Maroon four-latch hardshell case, which remains in excellent condition.

This instrument has received a professional setup and thorough inspection from Gibson Certified Vintage and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity, Letter of Appraisal, new Limited Lifetime Warranty, and exclusive Gibson Certified Vintage accessories including a leather guitar strap, matching leather luggage tag, and vintage-style Gibson pick container.

In celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Gibson flat-top acoustic, all Gibson Certified Vintage flat-top acoustic guitars released in 2026 will include a commemorative Certificate of Authenticity featuring the official “100 Years of Flat-Tops” logo.
