‘The Kinks: Brothers’

A New Exhibition by Ray Davies, Dave Davies and Christian Furr

The next exhibition at the Gibson Garage London features paintings and prints by The Kinks co-founders Ray Davies and Dave Davies and acclaimed artist Christian Furr.

“Over the years it’s been amazing to see creative people take our music and make something of their own. Christian Furr has done just that. It’s great to be doing something new with Dave, and seeing these paintings and the original passport photobooth picture again brings back a lot of memories.”

The Kinks are recognised as one of the most important and influential British rock groups of all time. From their explosive beginnings as part of the British Beat movement to forays into concept albums, stadium rock, and acoustic balladeering, the band have left an unimpeachable legacy of classic songs, many of which form the building blocks of popular music.

A master of portraiture, Furr first came to prominence in 1995 when, at the age of 28, he became the youngest artist to paint HM Queen Elizabeth II, after the Queen personally selected him for a commission by the Royal Overseas League.

‘The Kinks: Brothers’ collection is based on a vintage passport booth photograph, originally taken by Ray and Dave in East Finchley, North London in 1968. The iconic double self-portrait has been reimagined by Furr in a series of original mixed media artworks on paper and canvas.

“It was a magic moment when we crammed into the photo booth all those years ago. Christian Furr has done a wonderful job in developing the image into special artworks. We hope people love these as much as we do."
