The Leo Scala Collection

Leo Scala

Leo started out studying chemical engineering and playing classical music on the clarinet, but by the mid-1990s, his passions led him to rock 'n' roll, electric guitars, and Southern California. In a small workshop there, for the last 25 years, he’s been obsessively crafting extraordinary guitars that are collected and played by discerning artists such as Richard Fortus of Guns N’ Roses, Phil X of Bon Jovi, Doug Aldrich of Whitesnake, and Warren Cuccurullo.

The ’58 Addiction

Inspired by a heavily worn vintage 1958 Gibson Explorer nicknamed “Big Ed” that once resided in the Gibson Vault, this series expands on the acclaimed custom Explorers built by Leo for Slash and Jason Momoa. With the ’58 Addiction Explorers, Leo turns that inspiration into 10 bold, bespoke interpretations. Each instrument stands alone as a singular creation: hand-aged, hand-detailed, and built to deliver a powerful visual and sonic identity all its own.

“It’s about celebrating the craftsmanship, creativity, and passion of our Master Artisans.” – Gibson President and CEO Cesar Gueikian

The Rickie Hinrichsen Collection

Rickie Hinrichsen

Rickie began his career at Gibson, first as a binder, then in whitewood and setup in the Nashville craftory. One day, an opportunity presented itself to hand-carve a paisley design on a guitar. Though he had no formal training in wood detailing, he did have deep experience in drawing and visual arts. If he could draw it, he could carve it.

NAMM 2026 Custom Art Guitars

January 2026 saw Rickie Hinrichsen bring seven remarkable art guitars—and a matching amplifier—to the NAMM Show in Anaheim, California, with several of the pieces inspired by his childhood in Nebraska. From heirloom porcelain to vintage radios and the sacred threshold between the scene and the unseen, Rickie’s work continues to amaze and delight in equal measure.
