The Gibson SJ-200 commands the stage and demands attention.

The SJ-200™ was introduced in 1937 as the Super Jumbo, the top-of-the-line Gibson flat-top acoustic guitar. Formidable both in size and projection, almost 90 years on, the SJ-200 still makes an aesthetic and sonic statement like no other. Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Emmylou Harris, Elvis Presley, Jimmy Page—the list of icons who have taken to the stage and studio with this majestic instrument reads like a who’s who of rock ’n’ roll and Americana. Choose your SJ-200 today and help write the next chapter of music history.

Handcrafted in Bozeman

Gibson offers today’s players a variety of SJ-200 models at different price points, including Modern and Historic Collection guitars and artist signature models. What they all have in common is our commitment to time-honored processes and American handcrafted excellence. Throughout the line, you’ll find sophisticated pickup systems designed to cope with the demands of the modern stage and premium hardshell cases that protect your pride and joy en route to your next performance.

The Gibson difference.

Radiused bracing

Radiused bracing

It might be the King of the Flat-Tops, but like our other acoustic guitars, the Gibson SJ-200 features a domed top and back. Unlike the carved top of an archtop or mandolin, this effect is created by subtly radiusing the bracing—typically with a 28’ radius on the top and a 12’ radius on the back—which the top and back conform to when glued. This tension is a key ingredient in the magic tone and explosive dynamics of an SJ-200.

Dovetail neck joint

Dovetail neck joint

At Gibson Acoustic in Bozeman, Montana, we pride ourselves on doing more work by hand than any other major manufacturer, on every guitar we build. The necks on our SJ-200 acoustic guitars are still fitted by hand in the vintage style with a dovetail joint, which means the neck is glued into a recess in the body for maximum transfer of vibrations, light weight, structural strength, and optimal balance.

Attention to detail

Attention to detail

With unmistakable visual accents such as the Moustache™ bridge design, engraved pickguards and mother-of-pearl crown fretboard and headstock inlays, there’s no easy way to make an SJ-200, but we think the results speak for themselves. Every Gibson SJ-200 is a musical work of art, built with responsibly sourced materials to last for many lifetimes.
