A new addition to the Gibson Custom Les Paul family brings a longer scale length ideal for drop tunings
Gibson Custom has unveiled the Les Paul™ Custom Long Scale, with features that offer a modern twist for contemporary players, all built upon the classic DNA of the Les Paul guitar design. The new model retains the full set of features from the Les Pauls of the Gibson Custom Modern Collection, but pairs them with a 25.5-inch scale length rather than the traditional 24.75 inches.
The result provides a feel and response that will appeal to players who favor the added snap of a longer scale, along with artists in heavier genres who explore drop tunings. Let’s dive into the key features of this new addition to the Gibson Custom catalog, handcrafted in Nashville, Tennessee.
The Gibson Custom Les Paul Custom Long Scale in Ebony
The Gibson Custom Les Paul Custom Long Scale’s construction centers on a one-piece mahogany body with nine-hole weight relief, capped with a two-piece plain maple top that also adds clarity and definition. Multi-ply binding on the body’s top and back reinforces its status within the Modern Collection.
The long-scale mahogany neck, carved to a Modern Medium C profile, is joined with a long neck tenon for sustain and tonal transfer. A bound ebony fretboard with a 12-inch radius, 22 medium-jumbo frets, and mother-of-pearl block inlays completes the playing surface, while further up on the model a multi-ply bound headstock features a Corian nut, Grover® kidney-button tuners, and a mother-of-pearl Gibson logo and split diamond inlay.
Gold-plated hardware includes a Tune-O-Matic™ bridge and Stop Bar tailpiece. A calibrated pair of humbucker pickups, with a 490R at the neck and a 498T at the bridge, both with gold-plated covers, are hand-wired with CTS® potentiometers, a Switchcraft® three-way toggle switch, and a Switchcraft 1/4-inch output jack. This model has an Ebony finish and ships with a Gibson Custom hardshell case and a Certificate of Authenticity.
