Gibson Pickup Shop unveils Aged Greenybucker Pickup Set

Unlock the iconic Greeny tone with this limited-edition set, built to the specifications of the Patent Applied For humbuckers in one of the most iconic Les Pauls ever made

The Gibson Pickup Shop has unveiled the Gibson Aged Greenybucker™ Pickup Set, as featured on the famed “Greeny” Les Paul™. Developed with Kirk Hammett’s guidance and built from specifications taken directly from the actual Patent Applied For humbuckers™ in his world-renowned 1959 Les Paul Standard, this pickup set is designed to deliver the instantly recognizable sonic signature that made Greeny famous. Limited to just 100 sets worldwide, the pickups are available now from the Gibson Garage locations in Nashville and London, and online via Gibson.com.

Among the most celebrated Gibson achievements are the original 1950s Patent Applied For humbuckers. Few sets are as highly revered as the pair installed in the legendary Greeny Les Paul, famous not only for their voice but also for the unmistakable character heard in the middle position when both pickups are engaged: an iconic, slightly hollow, vocal-like out-of-phase tonal color.

Gibson Aged Greenybucker Set, Limited, Aged Nickel Pickup Gibson The nickel covers feature Murphy Lab aging

The Aged Greenybucker Pickup Set features double black bobbins, aged nickel covers courtesy of the Murphy Lab, two-conductor wiring, and Alnico 2 magnets, with average DC resistance readings of approximately 8.3k for the rhythm pickup and 8.7k for the treble pickup. The rhythm pickup’s reverse magnetic polarity is the key ingredient in capturing the signature Greeny middle-switch sound. This unmistakable tone has inspired players for decades and remains one of the most celebrated quirks in electric guitar history.

“The magic of Greeny is in the details—the way the pickups react under your hands, the way the middle position speaks, and the way every note feels alive,” says Jared Brandon, Pickup Product Manager at Gibson. “For the Aged Greenybucker set, we worked from the only true reference point, Greeny itself, alongside Kirk Hammett, so that players can access that unmistakable voice with the consistency, craftsmanship, and reliability of pickups built in Nashville.”
