A mahogany version of the historic Flying V
Gibson Custom is the pinnacle of craftsmanship, quality, and sound excellence. Each instrument celebrates the Gibson legacy through accuracy, authenticity, and attention to detail.
The Gibson Flying V™ was way ahead of its time when it was introduced in 1958. So much so that while it may seem hard to believe today, only 81 were shipped that year. However, the Flying V’s popularity has grown exponentially in the years since then, due in no small part to the many guitar heroes who have embraced the model, including Albert King, Keith Richards, Slash, Joe Bonamassa, Lonnie Mack, Albert King, Dave Davies of The Kinks, and Billy Gibbons, just to name a few.
This version of the 1958 Flying V uses mahogany instead of the original Korina wood for the neck and body, but otherwise, all of the classic vintage Flying V features have been carefully recreated in this Historic Reissue model. Mahogany delivers a somewhat warmer sound than the slightly brighter Korina, making it a great choice for players who love the 1950s Flying V aesthetic but who are looking for a denser, all-mahogany tone for rock and metal. And since mahogany is more readily available than the scarcer Korina, this also makes this 1958 Mahogany Flying V Reissue the most accessible way to get Historic Flying V looks, features, and performance.
Featuring an ABR-1 bridge with a lacquered brass chevron and a string-through mahogany body, unpotted Custombucker pickups with Alnico 3 magnets, a hide glue-fitted mahogany neck with a 50s Rounded Medium C profile and topped with an Indian rosewood fretboard that is equipped with 22 reissue frets and adorned with pearloid dot inlays, two volume and one tone control with CTS® potentiometers and a phone book capacitor, VOS nitrocellulose lacquer finish and aged gold hardware, Kluson® single ring tuners, and a 4-ply white pickguard. A historically accurate case is also included, with a classic brown exterior and plush pink interior to keep this beautiful guitar safe when you’re traveling to your next gig.
