A Hummingbird with the sound and elegance of koa

Gibson Custom is proud to introduce the Hummingbird™ Elegant Koa, a new take on the iconic Hummingbird. Part of the Artisan Series, the Hummingbird Elegant Koa is a carefully crafted instrument with aesthetically refined features, making it as pleasing to the eye as it is to the ear.

The Hummingbird Elegant Koa features koa back and sides. Koa is a beautiful-looking and sonically bright tonewood, similar in some ways to maple, but it will warm up with time and use, delivering a tone with the high-end sparkle of maple that blooms with added warmth and a nice, balanced sound overall. The koa back also features a three-rope marquetry strip down the center. The koa back and sides are paired with a AAA Sitka spruce top.

The Hummingbird Elegant Koa has a mahogany neck with a comfortable Round profile. The neck is topped with a bound rosewood fretboard that features 20 standard frets and beautiful abalone split parallelogram inlays. The headstock also features the Gibson logo and crown, both also inlaid in abalone, along with a TUSQ® nut and gold-plated Grover® Rotomatic® tuning machines.

The belly-up bridge is crafted from rosewood and adorned with abalone dot inlays. The saddle and bridge pins are also TUSQ. Hummingbird pickguards are notable for their detailed graphic design, which features flowers, a butterfly, and a hummingbird. The Hummingbird Elegant Koa takes things to the next level with a tortoise-shell-colored guard featuring silver and gold-foil stamps, which gives the pickguard a beautiful, colorful iridescence when viewed at varying angles.

The Hummingbird Elegant Koa comes craftory-equipped with high-quality L.R. Baggs™ VTC electronics, with an under-saddle Element pickup paired with an internal preamp for natural acoustic guitar tone when plugged in on stage or in the studio. The volume and tone controls are conveniently mounted at the edge of the soundhole, where they’re quick and easy for the player to access while remaining all but invisible to the audience. It comes packaged in a Gibson Custom hardshell case to help keep it safe in storage and transport.

First introduced in 1960, the Hummingbird was the first Gibson square-shoulder dreadnought acoustic model. It arrived at the dawn of a new musical era and was quickly embraced by musicians across genres. One of the most widely recognized and popular acoustic guitar models of all time, the Hummingbird has been the choice of countless players across generations, in no small part due to its versatility; no matter how you attack this flat-top, it pumps out rich, deep tones and is equally at home strumming first-position chords as it is taking the spotlight for leads and solos.
