Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers were one of America’s greatest rock ’n’ roll bands and known for powerful live performances and a string of enduring hit records. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002. Today, Tom Petty remains one of the world’s most beloved songwriters and musical artists. Together with his band, the Heartbreakers, he wrote and created some of the most impactful songs of the rock era. Their continued popularity proves that sincere songwriting, impeccable musical craftsmanship, and authentic storytelling never go out of style.

Now, Gibson is exceptionally proud to help celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers with the release of the limited edition Tom Petty Flying V™ 50th Anniversary. Inspired by the band’s logo, which is prominently displayed on the cover of their self-titled debut album, which was released in 1976, the Tom Petty Flying V 50th Anniversary honors these champions of American rock ’n’ roll.

The Tom Petty Flying V 50th Anniversary features an iconic V-shaped body crafted from mahogany. The mahogany neck is shaped to a fast-playing, comfortable SlimTaper™ profile. It is equipped with a rosewood fretboard with a 12” radius for easy chording and bends that won’t fret out. It also features 22 medium jumbo frets and acrylic dot inlays.

The headstock features the Gibson logo inlaid in mother of pearl and is outfitted with smooth-turning, precision Grover® Rotomatic® tuners, which, in partnership with the low-friction GraphTech® nut, ensure reliable, stable tuning. The truss rod cover features a Heartbreaker 50th logo, while the rear of the headstock is adorned with a Tom Petty signature reproduction decal.

The Tom Petty Flying V 50th Anniversary is powered by a pair of 70s Tribute humbucker™ pickups that can deliver everything from beautiful clean tones to blistering rock tones and everything in between. The pickups are hand-wired to individual volume controls and a master tone control with an Orange Drop® tone capacitor for even more tonal versatility, while a three-way pickup selector toggle switch allows you to use either pickup individually, or to blend and combine them in any ratio you prefer.

The Tom Petty Flying V 50th Anniversary features gold-plated hardware, including an aluminum Nashville Tune-O-Matic™ bridge and Stop Bar tailpiece that deliver full action height and intonation adjustability, along with contributing to the guitar’s excellent sustain. Gold Top Hat knobs, a three-ply white pickguard, and a cream toggle switch cap complete the presentation.

Available in five vibrant gloss nitrocellulose lacquer finishes—Heartbreaker Red, Graphite Metallic, Pearl White, Pelham Blue, and Gainesville Gold—only 50 of each color have been crafted, so you’ll need to act fast to secure your favorite. A Gibson hardshell case is also included.
