Legendary style and sound, updated to meet the needs of modern guitarists

During the Great Depression, when optimism was low, Gibson created a new line of “advanced” instruments with enlarged body dimensions that delivered increased volume, projection, and improved bass response. One of these new models was the Advanced Jumbo, which was initially produced for only three years: from 1936 until its discontinuation in 1938. Due to its relatively low production numbers, the model largely flew under the radar for many players despite being a superb-sounding and performing instrument. Today, vintage Advanced Jumbo models are some of the most desirable, highly valued, and arguably best-sounding vintage acoustic guitars in the world. They’re loud and responsive, with plenty of bass that’s matched by articulate and balanced treble. Now, Gibson is proud to introduce the new Advanced Jumbo Original, a modern version of this legendary vintage icon with refinements that make it even more appealing and useful for today’s guitarists.

Like the vintage models, the Advanced Jumbo Original features a round shoulder rosewood body. It also features a Sitka spruce top that is reinforced with traditional scalloped X-bracing. In a nod to the preferences of many modern players, the 25.5” mahogany neck has a comfortable SlimTaper™ profile that makes it easy to play for hours on end and is attached to the body with a compound dovetail neck-to-body joint that is fitted with hot hide glue. The neck is capped with an Indian rosewood fretboard with a 12” radius. The fretboard is equipped with 19 standard frets and decorated with the traditional Advanced Jumbo mother-of-pearl “Diamond and Arrows” inlays. The nut and saddle are bone, while the bridge pins are TUSQ®. The soundhole features historically accurate vintage 30s Advanced Jumbo dimensions and is slightly smaller than the soundholes used on most current Gibson acoustic guitars. Nickel-plated Grover® open-back tuners further contribute to the Advanced Jumbo Original’s vintage vibe, along with the Roy Smeck-style Firestripe pickguard and the script-style mother-of-pearl Gibson logo and Diamond and Arrows headstock inlay. To help make the Advanced Jumbo Original even more useful to today’s guitarists, it comes equipped with an L.R. Baggs™ VTC under-saddle transducer and preamp, with soundhole-mounted volume and tone controls that are easily accessible for the player while remaining practically invisible to the audience. The Advanced Jumbo Original has a beautiful gloss Vintage Sunburst finish and comes packed in a Gibson hardshell case to keep it safe while traveling to your next performance.
