Epiphone launches the Hummingbird Tribute with original details honoring the iconic Gibson design

Epiphone launches the Hummingbird Tribute

Boasting characterful features that made the early Hummingbird a trailblazer and offered in three classic colorways, the Hummingbird Tribute unites foundational flair with modern accessibility

Epiphone has launched the Hummingbird Tribute, honoring one of Gibson’s most celebrated acoustic models with original design details at a more accessible price for both new and longtime players of all abilities.

The Gibson Hummingbird™ was introduced in 1960 and marked Gibson’s first square-shoulder dreadnought model. Its charismatic Hummingbird pickguard design made it widely recognizable and remains a key feature today. It became a favorite for guitarists like Keith Richards and Brian Jones from The Rolling Stones in its early years, as well as Marcus King, Thom Yorke, Tom Petty, Grace Potter, Michelle Branch, Sheryl Crow, and many others, reaching audiences far and wide.

The Hummingbird’s square shoulders and large body size give it a powerful, rich voice. It offers a versatile middle-ground between two other popular Gibson acoustic designs: the slightly smaller, round-shoulder J-45™, which launched in 1942 and became known as “The Workhorse,” and the SJ-200™, which has been on stages since 1937 and is known as the “King of the Flat-Tops” for its grand presence and commanding sound.

The Epiphone Hummingbird Tribute in Antique Natural

The new Epiphone Hummingbird Tribute features the square‐shoulder dreadnought shape that helped define the original guitar and hosts a select layered spruce top paired with layered mahogany to deliver a warm, balanced tone. It also has antique ivory‐colored binding to complement a laurel reverse-belly bridge with a compensated plastic saddle and ivory-colored bridge pins.

Further enhancing the classic look is a tortoise-shell-colored pickguard in the unmistakable Hummingbird silhouette. A glued-in mahogany neck with a comfortable Rounded C profile makes the Hummingbird Tribute effortless to play, ideal for beginners discovering their sound and seasoned musicians seeking reliability. The neck is completed by a laurel fingerboard, accented with antique ivory-colored binding, dot inlays, and 20 frets.

The headstock offers the beloved Kalamazoo shape and is equipped with dependable die-cast tuners, a plastic nut, and a two-ply truss-rod cover engraved with “Tribute.” Players can choose from three high-gloss finishes: Antique Natural, Ebony, and Heritage Cherry Sunburst, with the latter version also available for left-handed players. Epiphone offers both an optional gig bag and a hardshell case, each sold separately.
