The exhibition celebrates the powerful brotherhood of Ray and Dave Davies, more than 60 years after The Kinks were formed
Dave Davies of The Kinks joined artist Christian Furr at the Gibson Garage London earlier this July to launch The Kinks: Brothers, an exhibition that celebrates the memories, creativity, and legacy behind one of rock’s most influential sibling partnerships. The exhibition is open to the public until September 6, 2026, with limited-edition prints and paintings available for purchase.
The launch event featured a conversation between Dave Davies, Christian Furr, and The Times music critic Will Hodgkinson, exploring The Kinks’ extraordinary legacy, the bond between brothers Ray and Dave Davies, and the relationship between music, memory, and visual art. More than 60 years after The Kinks formed, The Kinks: Brothers centers around a passport photobooth photograph of Ray and Dave Davies together, taken in East Finchley, North London, in 1968, which Christian Furr has reimagined as a series of original paintings.

When Dave Davies first saw the finished works, he was moved to tears and immediately began painting on them himself. Dave has painted for many years, while Ray studied painting at Hornsey College of Art before The Kinks were formed. Dave says: “It was a magic moment when we crammed into the photobooth all those years ago. Christian Furr has done a wonderful job in developing the image into special artworks. We hope people love these as much as we do.”
Ray adds: “Over the years it’s been amazing to see creative people take our music and make something of their own. Christian Furr has done just that. It’s great to be doing something new with Dave, and seeing these paintings and the original passport photo booth picture again brings back a lot of memories.”
Speaking of his creative process for the exhibition, Christian recalls, “I was thinking about Matisse, punk, pop art, luminosity, and keeping that color as bright as possible, because that to me is what I see when I listen to The Kinks.”
Every painting in the exhibition has been signed by Ray and Dave Davies and Christian Furr. The works, alongside a collection of limited-edition prints, are available to purchase from RedHouse Originals, with prints starting at £195. Gibson and RedHouse Originals have also released free limited-edition prints in three secret London locations connected to The Kinks’ history, with clues dropped via the @gibsonguitarUK social channels.
