Customized 1942 Banner LG-2

This Gibson Custom Select 1942 Banner LG-2 features a custom finish, custom pickguard, and Murphy Lab Heavy Aging. Gibson Custom Select offers unique specifications on existing instruments through the Gibson lineup. These specifications can include special tonewoods, custom finishes, select electronics, and more. These details are hand-selected by Gibson’s experts to provide the experience of owning a rare guitar directly from the source. Made in small batches by the skilled artisans in Bozeman, Montana, Gibson Custom Select acoustic guitars offer unique instruments that are rare to find.

The Gibson LG-2 first appeared in Gibson’s lineup in 1942 and retained the banner logo until the end of 1945. The first three years of the model’s existence are most desired on the vintage market, making this 1942 Banner LG-2 Reissue a descendant of the first Gibson Golden Era. Featuring a 24.75-inch scale length, a thermally aged red spruce top, and hand-scalloped red spruce X-bracing, the 1942 Banner LG-2 Reissue has a lot in common with the 1942 Banner J-45 Reissue, but with a smaller body and different neck profile. Because of its smaller body, the LG-2 responds well when played with a lighter touch. This makes the guitar perfect for those who play fingerstyle as well as strumming along on cowboy chords. The recipe of a thermally aged red spruce top, mahogany back and sides, and Gibson script and banner logos featured in gold silkscreen on the peghead make for a classic model with a classic recipe. Like every Gibson acoustic guitar built in Bozeman, Montana, these instruments are handcrafted using the finest available materials.

The customizations on this guitar are purely aesthetic, so the bones underneath have the same features as a typical 1942 Banner LG-2. The customizations on this Gibson Custom Select 1942 Banner LG-2 include a custom Dark Tobacco Burst finish that is inspired by Gibson sunburst finishes of the 1930s, a single-ply white pickguard, and Murphy Lab Heavy Aged nitrocellulose lacquer. This combination of specifications evokes the aesthetic of guitars sold by department stores in the 1950s and 1960s, but with the backbone of the legendary Gibson LG-2.

This Gibson Custom Select 1942 Banner LG-2 Reissue offers a unique blend of custom aesthetics. This nostalgic look makes the guitar feel like it could be an alternate history of Gibson guitars made during the wartime effort, where supplies were limited. Included with the guitar is a Gibson Custom Certificate of Authenticity and a reissue-style hardshell case.
