"In every respect, other the than two detailed below, the 1963 Epiphone Firebird I IGC is a truly fantastic electric guitar - unfortunately the Epiphone lightning bridge is made out of zinc, a metal so soft that deep grooves are cut into it by the G, B & top E strings, so deep that string vibration is compromised, resulting in a sitar effect, particularly on the top E string around the 2nd octave. This bridge flaw is being fixed by swapping out the standard Epiphone lightening zinc bridge for a Gibson original parts solid nickel lightening bridge - hopefully this replacement bridge upgrade will solve the sitar fault. Also, the pickup vibrates randomly in sympathy with the E one octave above the bottom string - a guitar tech will attempt to address these two issues shortly. The Gibson original parts replacement bridge UK RRP is approximately £200 & the set up charge + fitting the new bridge is approximately £100, so almost a further £300 to resolve the two minor issues - from brand new - this example was bought directly from Gibson online, not a guitar that’s ever been in a store, so never been played before. I truly love this guitar - the cherry finish is stunning, as is it’s overall playability & tone - it reminds me so much of my previous Gibson Firebird - a vintage 1965 non-reverse Firebird V, which I played for about 20 years. I can’t wait to start recording with this Firebird I, through my Mesa Boogie MK VII, later this year - 2026!"
