Meet the new Songwriter Recording Artist models—your perfect companions for stage or studio
The Gibson Songwriter series was engineered for artists taking to the studio and stage, offering reliable specifications and rich Gibson acoustic tone. First introduced in the late 1990s, the Songwriter series has been revitalized by Gibson with the launch of two new models: the Songwriter Recording Artist and Songwriter Recording Artist EC. These handcrafted acoustic-electric guitars elevate the beloved square-shoulder modern dreadnought design, and blend classic Gibson character with appointments for contemporary performance.
The Recording Artist models bring together the historic tonal DNA of 1930s Gibson acoustics with modern features for today’s top players. Both instruments are made in Bozeman, Montana, and offer thermally aged Sitka spruce tops, rosewood backs and sides, long-scale mahogany necks, and a highly responsive L.R. Baggs® HiFi electronics system. Both are available in Rosewood Burst and Antique Natural finishes, and are available worldwide at Gibson Garage locations, via authorized Gibson dealers, and Gibson.com.

Songwriter Recording Artist
The Gibson Songwriter Recording Artist captures the historic tonal advantages of the famed 1930s Gibson scalloped Advanced X-braced top, paired with a 25.5-inch long-scale length and tonewoods reminiscent of the legendary 1936 Advanced Jumbo. The neck has a Round profile and is topped with a bound ebony fretboard featuring mother-of-pearl diamond eye inlays. A compound dovetail neck joint secured with hot hide glue ensures maximum tonal transfer and longterm stability, and its natural voice is warm and rich.
The guitar offers further premium features, including a bound headstock with a rosewood veneer inlaid with the Gibson logo and crown, a bone nut, gold Grover® open back tuners, an ebony bridge with a bone saddle and TUSQ® bridge pins, and mother-of-pearl arrow inlays. The thermally aged top is protected by a custom line tortoise pickguard and framed by a wide abalone rosette. The fitted L.R. Baggs® HiFi system utilizes dual bridge plate sensors and an internal preamp to deliver natural acoustic tone and excellent feedback resistance. The guitar ships in a Gibson hardshell case.

Songwriter Recording Artist EC
The Gibson Songwriter Recording Artist EC builds on the same tonal foundation as the non-cutaway model, but adds a Venetian cutaway for enhanced upper fret access, making it ideal for lead players, modern fingerpickers, and those seeking expanded range. Just like its sibling, it also has a 25.5-inch scale mahogany neck with a Round profile and a bound ebony fretboard, and shares the same premium appointments, the L.R. Baggs® HiFi electronics system, and also comes with a Gibson hardshell case.
