Originally intended for students, the Gibson Les Paul Junior has long since transcended beginner status. Since the model’s introduction in 1954, Les Paul Juniors have been seen and heard in the hands of many famous players, from John Lennon to Billie Joe Armstrong. The heart of the guitar’s tone lies in the single Dogear P-90 pickup, which is screwed directly to the mahogany body, and the simple wraparound tailpiece, which delivers unparalleled resonance and sustain. With a single P-90 pickup and 500K audio-taper volume and tone controls with a paper-in-oil tone capacitor, the signal is pure, which directly translates into the raunchy, dynamic, and highly versatile sound for which Les Paul Juniors are acclaimed.
This Gibson Custom Select ’57 Junior features a TV White finish. White finish is applied to the body and neck, and then brown wood filler is applied to emphasize the natural grain of the mahogany, which creates a contrasting appearance. There have been many variations of TV finishes throughout the decades, and TV White is among the rarest of the bunch. Simplicity continues with celluloid dot inlays on the unbound rosewood fingerboard. The 1950s Chunky D-Shape neck profile takes inspiration from the hefty neck profiles of early vintage Juniors, with a depth of 0.9” at the 1st fret and 1.0” at the 12th fret.
