Sharing the same silhouette as the beloved Gibson Hummingbird, the Raven has a darkly enigmatic design and offers timeless acoustic tone
Metallica’s Kirk Hammett is continuing his longstanding partnership with Gibson with the launch of a majestic new acoustic guitar. Kirk has teamed up with the master luthiers at Gibson Custom in Bozeman, Montana, to create the Gibson Custom Kirk Hammett Raven, a counterpart to the legendary Gibson Hummingbird™.
The Kirk Hammett Raven is available now via authorized dealers, Gibson Garage locations, and the official Gibson website as a limited drop of just 100 guitars worldwide. Each guitar has been carefully handcrafted, and while it shares the Hummingbird’s square-shoulder body shape, Kirk’s Raven offers a much darker, artistic twist on the Hummingbird aesthetic.
The guitar pays homage to Gibson’s tradition of wildlife-inspired designs, featuring intricately crafted double pickguards and a raven-themed tailpiece accent. It has a Sitka spruce top and mahogany back and sides, supported by traditional scalloped Advanced X-bracing. Its mahogany neck features a Round profile and is topped with a bound ebony fretboard, complete with 20 frets and mother-of-pearl star inlays. A 16-inch radius makes it ideal for the fast, expressive playing that Kirk is known for.
Other key features include Grover® Rotomatic® tuners, TUSQ® components—including the nut, saddle, and bridge pins—to enhance tonal consistency and tuning stability, and there are even some striking finishing details on the guitar’s headstock, including a mother-of-pearl raven skull inlay alongside the Gibson logo.
Equipped with an L.R. Baggs™ Element VTC +4 system, the Raven can tackle both stage and studio use and has discreet soundhole-mounted volume and tone controls that don’t disrupt the guitar’s beauty, yet remain quick and easy for the player to access. Each Raven ships in a black Gibson Custom hardshell case featuring a matching raven skull graphic and includes a certificate of authenticity and a custom raven-themed strap. But that’s not all: each guitar is personally signed by Kirk on the soundhole label, making it a true collector’s treasure.
