The model makes Fatoumata the first woman of color to receive an Epiphone signature guitar, and honors her extraordinary artistry
Epiphone has revealed a brand-new signature SG™ for GRAMMY®-nominated artist Fatoumata Diawara. Born of her passion for the Epiphone SG Muse, the guitar is a player-focused instrument that reflects her aesthetic. This collaboration also makes history, as Fatoumata is now the first woman of color to receive an Epiphone signature guitar. It’s available now on Epiphone.com, at the Gibson Garages in both Nashville and London, and via authorized Epiphone dealers.
Fatoumata is an Afrofuturist guitarist, singer-songwriter, and actress. Known for her distinctive fusion of traditional Wassoulou sounds with modern global influences, she’s collaborated with artists including -M-, Angélique Kidjo, Oumou Sangaré, Disclosure, Damon Albarn, Paul McCartney, and Herbie Hancock. Her 2018 debut album, Fenfo, received two GRAMMY nominations: one for Best World Music Album, and another for the single “Ultimatum,” featuring electronic duo Disclosure, for Best Dance Recording.
This signature SG features a mahogany body topped with Fatoumata’s striking, signature graphic design. It offers a set mahogany neck with a Custom C profile, and a bound rosewood fretboard with 22 medium jumbo frets and pearloid trapezoid inlays. Its gold hardware complements the unique graphic and includes a LockTone™ Tune-O-Matic™ bridge, LockTone Stop Bar tailpiece, and Epiphone locking tuners, paired with a Graph Tech® nut. Red pickup rings, Speed knobs, rear control covers, and a toggle switch tip add further visual flair.

The headstock, home to the Epiphone logo and Gibson Crown in mother-of-pearl, also features a two-ply truss rod cover engraved with Fatou’s signature in gold. As for electronics, this model comes equipped with two Epiphone Alnico Classic PRO™ humbuckers that are wired to modern controls, with individual volume knobs that include push/pull coil-splitting for single-coil textures. Two tone controls provide further shaping, and one features a push/pull phase switch for out-of-phase tones when both pickups are engaged.
