Check out Jason Mays’ in-depth demo of the Epiphone Futura RD Custom

With designs that are just as bold as they sound, the Epiphone Futura Series has officially landed. Hear one of the range’s most distinctive models in action

The new Epiphone Futura Series is here, and musician, content creator, and journalist Jason Mays has taken one of them for a spin in a new YouTube video. Jason took a sneak peek at the Futura range at The NAMM Show in January, and while he didn’t get much time to play one, he did fall head over heels for the unique designs of these slick new guitars.

The official launch landed in April, introducing seven new models with a captivating aesthetic. Ultimately, the Futura Series takes the most iconic Gibson body shapes from across its history and remixes them with modern, professional-grade features, many of which have never been seen before in the Epiphone or Gibson guitar lineups.

The most notable highlight of these guitars, and the thing you’ll notice first, is their Chromashift high-gloss finishes that change color as you tilt them. Meaning, yes—your guitar essentially becomes a chameleon under stage or studio lights.

In Jason’s video, you’ll see he’s opted for the Futura RD Custom model in Midnight Ember Shift. First introduced in 1977, the Gibson RD was ahead of its time and earned a cult following among players in heavy and alternative music, including Dave Grohl and Lee Malia of Bring Me The Horizon.

The Epiphone Futura RD Custom reintroduces this distinctive design. It has one significant feature that heavy metal guitarists and those who use drop tunings will really appreciate: an extended 25.5-inch scale length, setting it apart from the rest of the lineup. The guitar also features a mahogany body and is powered by ProBucker™ Ignite humbuckers.
