1959 Gibson Country Western, Serial Number S22384
This 1959 Gibson Country Western™ is a wonderfully clean and original example of one of our great slope-shoulder flat-tops. Essentially the natural-finished sibling to the Southern Jumbo, the Country Western combines a spruce top with mahogany back and sides, a Brazilian rosewood fretboard and bridge, and just enough ornamentation to set it apart. This one has been played and very well cared for, with a replacement bone saddle and an added heel strap button being the only notable changes.
The original Natural finish has aged beautifully, with checking throughout and scattered small nicks and dings, but very little significant wear. There is a roughly 1/2" wear spot along the binding edge on the treble-side upper bout near the back, along with typical wear around the edges of the headstock. A narrow area approximately 1/2" long between the Gibson logo and crown inlay has received a small black marker touch-up. Beyond that, there is very little to call out. The mahogany back has beautiful ribbon figure, and there is some subtle figure in the neck as well.
The mahogany neck has a comfortable Chunky C profile measuring .85" at the 1st fret and .98" at the 9th, with its original 1 11/16" nylon nut and a particularly dark Brazilian rosewood fretboard. The original frets show some playwear but remain in good condition. The original Kluson® Deluxe single-line tuners are also nicely preserved, with light tarnishing and white buttons that remain in good shape.
The original Brazilian rosewood belly-up bridge remains in place and is fitted with a replacement bone saddle. The original celluloid pickguard is well preserved, as is the original Country Western soundhole label. The Factory Order Number, S2238 4, remains clearly stamped on the neck block. An aluminum strap button has been added to the back of the heel.
Most importantly, this is a tremendous-sounding guitar. It has a deep, booming low end with sparkling highs and plenty of clarity in between. At 4.62 pounds, it feels alive in your hands, rings beautifully, and responds immediately to the right hand. Some vintage acoustics simply make you want to keep playing them, and this is one of those guitars.
This guitar ships in a new Gibson Deluxe Protector case and includes a non-original but era-correct Lifton™ five-latch brown and pink hardshell case in very good condition.
This instrument has received a professional setup and thorough inspection from Gibson Certified Vintage and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity, Letter of Appraisal, new Limited Lifetime Warranty, and exclusive Gibson Certified Vintage accessories including a leather guitar strap, matching leather luggage tag, and vintage-style Gibson pick container.
In celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Gibson flat-top acoustic, all Gibson Certified Vintage flat-top acoustic guitars released in 2026 will include a commemorative Certificate of Authenticity featuring the official "100 Years of Flat-Tops" logo.
