This Gibson Custom Select Les Paul™ Axcess Custom is full of handpicked features from the finish to the hardware. Gibson Custom Select is a collection of instruments with hand-selected features not available on normal production models. These features can include custom finishes, custom electronics, and other details that make these instruments unique from everyday models. Made in small batches by the skilled artisans at the Gibson Custom Shop, these instruments are designed by Gibson’s experts and showcase what is possible through Made to Measure. This Les Paul Axcess Custom features a custom two-tone finish with special body, neck, and headstock binding.
The Les Paul Axcess Custom platform features player-focused features such as a Modern Contoured Heel that provides unrestricted access to the upper frets. Featured on the headstock is the reinforced Apex headstock carve, which provides more stability and a slightly different 14-degree headstock angle than the 17-degree headstock angle from traditional-specified Gibson Les Paul models. Replacing the traditional ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic™ is a Floyd Rose® tremolo, which is the biggest departure from vintage-style Les Paul models. The guitar features Modern Weight Relief, which removes small sections of mahogany from the body before the maple top is applied. This makes the guitar appear completely solid while making it lighter in weight. The Les Paul Axcess neck profile is modeled after the Authentic 1959 profile, but with a slightly slimmer carve.
Customized features on this Gibson Custom Select Les Paul Axcess Custom include a two-tone Racing Red and Classic White finish, black binding, black nickel hardware, and Double Black pickup bobbins. The shade of red used on this guitar is Racing Red, which is inspired by the color seen on Italian race cars since the early 1900s. While this shade of red has changed over the decades, this version of Racing Red is based on the most recent hues. The most unique feature of this guitar is the black binding on the body and headstock. This was achieved by flipping the order of the layers of the multi-ply binding. Instead of white appearing on the outside, black appears on the outside of the body and headstock. To match the body and headstock, the neck was fitted with black binding as well. More black accents appear on the guitar, such as a black nickel Floyd Rose tremolo, black nickel Grover® Rotomatic® tuners, black Speed knobs, and Double Black pickup bobbins.
Powered by a set of 490R and 498T pickups, this Gibson Custom Select Les Paul Axcess Custom is built to dive bomb and has a touch-sensitive response to high gain. Push/pull potentiometers are fitted to the tone controls that control series/parallel circuits, giving the player even more tonal options than a traditional two volume and two tone control layout. This Gibson Custom Select Les Paul Axcess Custom is packed with features made for today’s player with the spirit of the 80s. Included with the guitar is a Gibson Custom Certificate of Authenticity and a hardshell case.
