Job Summary:
The Cost Accountant is the integral link between the Finance and Production functions and critical to the achievement of the production-related financial results of the business. This role will require a thorough understanding of Mesa/Boogie’s production costs and processes by identifying and trending key performance indicators, developing robust operational financial analysis, and providing visibility and influence on the achievement of company priorities. This role will be key to creating a continuous improvement environment in process, reporting and analysis and quickly and effectively build new capabilities for Mesa/Boogie. The Cost Accountant is responsible for establishing, controlling, and analysing all production related costs, product standard costs, gross margin analysis and inventory valuation. This includes the preparation of production and associated product cost budgets and forecasts.
Essential Functions:
- Manage and maintain ERP system cost inputs and master data to accurately identify and measure costs and associated production variances to allow for accurate reporting and forecasting of operating results.
- Build and maintain dashboards and reports of key operating and cost indicators across all finished goods, work-in-process and labour and raw material inputs.
- Work closely with the Production leadership to develop impactful business-level analytics and drive process simplification and improvement.
- Develop and maintain product cost models and generate margin, inventory, and capital investments forecasts for monthly, quarterly, annual, and strategic planning.
- Analyse Production and operational performance data to identify trends and opportunities in key departments and provide recommendations to improve results.
- Lead team in capital planning for the Petaluma facility including accurate analysis of project benefits and payback analysis as well as post project analysis of benefits realized.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system experience including system implementations and best practice development in a production environment, Microsoft Dynamics 365 F&O experience a plus.
- Excellent proficiency in Microsoft Excel including, but not limited to V look up, pivot tables, visual dashboard, Power BI Experience a plus
- Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to distil complex data into meaningful analysis for non-technical audiences.
- Solid interpersonal skills with proven ability to develop and maintain effective business partner relationships at all levels of the organization.
- Strong teamwork and project management skills combined with ability to work as part of a cross functional team in a matrixed environment.
- Results oriented and driven, with a track record for delivering to plan.
- Flexibility to adapt quickly to changing circumstances, able to proactively question and challenge to prioritize and identify solutions in timely manner.
- Able to see the big picture but possesses a pragmatic/flexible approach to deliver results.
- Curious in nature and always looking to question, learn, and look for better ways to do things and push the broader team to the same end.
Education and Experience:
- BA/BS degree (or equivalent) Finance/Accounting or Business; CPA, CMA, or MBA (or other advanced business degree) a plus
- Minimum of three years of experience in production related cost accounting/financial analyst role
- Proven ability to work with all levels of management and foster relationships with all functions.
- Must be able to work independently, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and organize workload to meet organizational timelines in a fast paced, high growth environment.
- Possess the structure, control, and process experience of a multilocation / multinational with an entrepreneurial drive.
- Understands and has experience supporting growth through consistent and disciplined execution.
Travel Requirements:
- Occasional travel may be required to company’s HQ/Nashville location.
