Responsible for the machining and fabrication of precision components used to support engineers, designers, and production employees to implement improvements in Gibson Acoustic manufacturing process. This position requires agile, critical thinking and a broad skillset in machining to tackle complex technical problems. This is not a production machining position. The person in this position may work individually or as a team member as job conditions demand. 

 

Essential Functions

  • Study blueprints, drawings, and engineering information to determine methods and sequences of operations needed to fabricate components. 
  • Select or develop fixturing, appropriate tools and machines in preparation for machining.
  • Set up, adjust, and operate a variety of different machine tools including but not limited to CNC mills, lathes, and surface grinders to perform precision machining operations on a variety of materials.
  • Work to specifications and design criteria from verbal instructions, CAD models, drawings, and blueprints. 
  • Use a wide variety of precision measuring instruments to maintain accurate dimensional tolerances based on specifications and design criteria. 
  • Assist in the development and assembly of new machines and processes.
  • Observe and listen to operating machines or equipment to diagnose machine malfunctions and to determine need for adjustments or repairs. 
  • Repair of machinery and components.
  • Perform basic machine preventative maintenance functions according to schedule.
  • Assemble, disassemble, and relocate manufacturing equipment as directed.
  • Operate all machinery and tools in safe manner in accordance with company policies. 
  • Other duties as assigned.  

 

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Must be able to program, set up and run CNC machines independently. 
  • Proficient in using CAD/CAM software, Fusion 360 or MasterCAM preferred.
  • Manual machining familiarity.
  • Proficient in MIG/TIG welding applications. 
  • Proficient in basic math skills.
  • Proficient in understanding of dimensions and GD&T tolerances. 
  • Knowledge of feeds and speeds used for machining plastics and metals.
  • Ability to read and understand equipment technical manuals.
  • Ability to work with a team in a fast-paced, results oriented environment.
  • Ability to stand/walk for 8-10 hours per day.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

 

Required Education and Experience 

  • 2+ years of experience preferred. 
  • High school diploma or equivalent. Technical machining degree preferred.

Travel Requirements 

  • Less than 5%, across other facilities.

 

Physical Demands
