Celebrating Gustavo Cerati and his iconic 1965 ES-335

Gibson Custom is very proud to introduce the Gustavo Cerati 1965 ES-335, a beautiful tribute to both Gustavo Cerati and the legendary ES-335TD that he made famous. Produced in a very limited run, this model benefits from the meticulous aging artistry of the Murphy Lab, enabling a remarkably accurate recreation of the guitar’s appearance, feel, and voice. The Gustavo Cerati 1965 ES-335 features a semi-hollow body crafted from three-ply layered maple/poplar/maple with a solid maple centerblock to increase sustain and reduce feedback. Single ply cream binding frames both the top and back of the body.

The mahogany neck features an Authentic 1959 ES-335 C-shaped profile and is capped with a bound rosewood fretboard equipped with 22 medium jumbo frets and adorned with celluloid small-block inlays. The headstock features the Gibson logo and crown inlaid in mother of pearl, while a reissue nylon nut and a set of Grover® tuners with kidney buttons ensure reliable, stable tuning.

For hardware, there is a wired Historic ABR-1 bridge with nylon saddles paired with a Bigsby® B7 vibrato tailpiece. A pair of short-style ES-335 pickguards is installed, just like you’ll find on the original guitar. A pair of unpotted Custombucker humbucker™ pickups powers the Gustavo Cerati 1965 ES-335. These are paired with individual volume and tone controls that utilize high-quality CTS® potentiometers. These are topped with black Top Hat knobs with silver reflectors and dial pointers. The signal is routed through a Switchcraft® three-way pickup selector toggle switch and routed out through a Switchcraft 1/4” output jack.

Limited to just 60 instruments, each guitar in this limited edition release is handcrafted by the skilled luthiers of the Gibson Custom Shop and Murphy Lab in Nashville, Tennessee. The Gustavo Cerati 1965 ES-335 arrives in a Custom case, accompanied by a replica leather backpad and a Certificate of Authenticity booklet.

Gustavo Cerati acquired his Gibson ES-335TD in the mid-90s at Rudy’s Music in New York. It had been customized with a second pickguard, leather back pad, and a Bigsby® vibrato. It made its public debut during the legendary Soda Stereo MTV Unplugged session in 1996, and was also featured in El Último Concierto, the album and HBO documentary that marked the band’s farewell from the stage in 1997. It was also used on Bocanada (1999), Cerati’s acclaimed solo album, the Soda Stereo 2007 reunion tour, and during Shakira’s 2007 Live Earth show on July 7th in Hamburg, Germany, when Cerati performed with her on Día Especial. Here is your opportunity to own a recreation of this historically important guitar. With only 60 units in this very limited run, you’ll need to act fast and order yours today.
