One of the most distinctive Gibson acoustic instruments

Introduced in 1960 as the first square-shoulder acoustic model from Gibson, the unmistakable Hummingbird™ has become one of the most popular acoustic guitars ever made and the choice of countless players across generations and genres. The Hummingbird Original blends vintage appointments with modern, high-quality construction and now comes equipped with the Gibson-exclusive, custom-voiced Baggs™ HiFi DNA™ pickup system for amplified sound that captures the guitar’s character and every nuance of your playing.

The Hummingbird Original features a square-shoulder body crafted with a Sitka spruce top and mahogany back and sides. Scalloped X-bracing supports the top, with multi-ply binding framing the body. This proven combination gives the Hummingbird the versatility that has long defined the model, equally at home driving first-position chords or stepping forward for picked lead lines. A gloss nitrocellulose lacquer finish gives this version a clean, understated appearance that places the focus on the classic Hummingbird silhouette.

The mahogany neck is joined to the body with a compound dovetail neck-to-body joint and has a comfortable Rounded profile. It is fitted with a rosewood fretboard with a 12-inch radius, 20 standard frets, and mother-of-pearl parallelogram inlays. Gold Gotoh® keystone tuners and a bone nut complete the headstock, while the traditional Hummingbird truss rod cover and double antiqued binding reinforce the model’s vintage-appointed character.

The traditional belly-up bridge is crafted from rosewood and fitted with a bone saddle and TUSQ® bridge pins. The iconic Hummingbird pickguard remains one of the instrument’s most recognizable details, giving the guitar the visual identity familiar to players and music fans worldwide.

Inside, the Hummingbird Original is now equipped with the all-new Gibson-exclusive Baggs™ HiFi DNA™ pickup system. This active system uses two lightweight sensors mounted on the internal bridge plate. The sensors are matched with optimized individual preamps to deliver full-bodied, amplified acoustic tone that lets the guitar’s character and personality come through when amplified, with no impact on the unamplified tone. The Baggs HiFi DNA system offers comparable gain-before-feedback to an under-saddle pickup. The system also includes soundhole-mounted volume and tone controls that are quick and easy to access while playing, and all but invisible to your audience.

With vintage appointments, versatile square-shoulder performance, and natural-sounding electronics, the Hummingbird Original carries forward the qualities that have made the model a favorite for more than six decades. It comes ready for the stage and studio in a hardshell case.
