A Junior From an Alternate Universe

The Gibson Custom Select 1957 Les Paul™ Junior, Murphy Lab Ultra Light Aged Silver Fox is a fresh take on a classic model. Gibson Custom Select instruments are small-batch creations designed and handcrafted by the artisans at the Gibson Custom Shop. Guitars from the Gibson Custom Select Collection showcase exciting finishes, electronics, hardware, and other modifications that set them apart from the crowd. This Gibson Custom Select Les Paul Junior is finished in Silver Fox. While 1950s Les Paul Juniors would often receive the TV finish treatment, Silver Fox was a custom color offered only by Epiphone in the 1960s.

The Gibson Custom 1957 Les Paul Junior is a painstaking recreation of a legendary guitar from Gibson’s Golden Era. Originally released as a student guitar, history has proven the Les Paul Junior to be so much more than that, with this deceptively versatile instrument offering unparalleled raunch, sustain, and dynamic response thanks to its single P-90 pickup, wraparound tailpiece, and single-cutaway, slab mahogany body. Despite being stripped down to the bare essentials, like any instrument from Gibson Custom, the Les Paul Junior is every inch a handcrafted work of art. Features such as hand-wired electronics and a long tenon neck joint set with hot hide glue spare no expense.

The head-turning Silver Fox TV finish utilizes the natural grain of the mahogany body. A silver grain filler, combined with a black top coat, gives the finished guitar its heathered black-and-silver appearance. The Murphy Lab Ultra Light Aging process makes this guitar feel like it has lived through several decades, with natural lacquer checking in addition to lightly aged nickel hardware. Beauty in simplicity is showcased with a utilitarian approach combined with the finest materials available.

Applying a 1960s Epiphone finish to a Gibson model from the 50s puts a cool twist on a classic. Melding the history of Gibson and Epiphone, this is an example of a unique instrument that might have existed in an alternative universe and has now been brought to life as part of the Gibson Custom Select Collection by the artisans of the Gibson Custom Shop in Nashville, Tennessee. Included with the guitar is a reissue Lifton™ hardshell case with a pink interior, and a Gibson Custom Certificate of Authenticity.
