As its second year draws to a close, the Gibson Artist Spotlight program is proud to showcase an evolving roster of new musical talent across Gibson channels globally. Following recent additions Yasser Tejeda, PAIO, and KO KO MO, the latest artist to join the program is ASAKA, based in Tokyo, Japan. ASAKA is the lead vocalist and guitarist from TRiDENT, one of Japan’s most exciting next-generation rock bands. We recently caught up with ASAKA to find out about her favorite instruments, career highlights so far, and more.
How would you describe your music?
“TRiDENT, the band I belong to, plays authentic, classic rock that combines power, emotion, and a driving spirit!”
What is your favorite piece of Gibson gear that you own?
“I absolutely love the powerful, aggressive, and deep tone of the Gibson Les Paul, and I’ve been using it for years. It’s so beautiful to look at, and I remember falling in love at first sight with its sleek, rounded design back in my student days, and buying it.”
What has been the highlight of your musical career so far?
“My major debut! I was thrilled that not only my fans, but also my family, friends, and everyone involved, were happy for me! I think my beloved Les Paul, which has been with me through about 10 years of band activities, is also happy to have made it to the major stage!”
What would be your dream artist or producer collaboration, and why?
“Tak Matsumoto of B’z! I absolutely love his playing and his songs, and I deeply respect and admire him both as a guitarist and as a composer. Actually, we’re from the same hometown—Toyonaka City, Osaka Prefecture—so I feel like we’re connected in my own little way! As a Les Paul user myself, I’ll keep working hard so that someday we can perform together!”
What does being part of the Gibson Artist Spotlight program mean to you?
“I am truly honored to have been chosen for this precious opportunity, and I am incredibly thrilled to be involved with a brand I’ve loved and used for so many years in this way!”
What’s next on the horizon for you?
“TRiDENT has released their major debut EP, ‘Blue Dawn,’ and is currently on a Japan tour. We’d love for you to listen to the songs and feel our power and energy! Then come catch us live to enjoy our heavy rock sound!”
