The classic 50s Les Paul, now available with a Bigsby vibrato
The Les Paul™ Standard 50s is one of our most popular models. A carefully crafted homage to the legendary guitar that changed the course of popular music, Gibson is now proud to offer it with an optional Bigsby® vibrato tailpiece for those who prefer a vibrato-equipped Les Paul that reflects the specifications of the most revered era in Gibson history.
The Les Paul Standard 50s with Bigsby features a non-weight-relieved mahogany body paired with a carved, AA figured maple top, just as you’ll find on the celebrated models from the 1950s. Adding to its vintage appeal is a mahogany neck with a Vintage 50s neck profile that fills your hand comfortably, perfect for both beefy power chords and expressive single-note lines. The bound Indian rosewood fretboard features a 12” fretboard radius for smooth bends and comfortable chords, 22 medium jumbo frets, and acrylic trapezoid inlays, capturing the playing feel and visual aesthetic that set the stage for generations of electric guitar design. Together, the solid body and robust neck yield a resonant platform for the Burstbucker™ 1 and Burstbucker 2 humbucker™ pickups—both loaded with Alnico 2 magnets and designed to recreate the warm midrange, lively highs, and transparent lows of early Patent Applied For-style humbuckers.
The pickups are hand-wired to audio taper potentiometers and Orange Drop® tone capacitors. The Les Paul Standard 50s with Bigsby responds with exceptional precision to volume and tone adjustments, letting you explore a broad range of sonic possibilities. From mellow jazz voicings to unrestrained rock crunch, these pickups deliver the same nuanced detail and harmonic richness that made the original Les Pauls legendary.
Hardware appointments include an ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic™ bridge, Bigsby B7 vibrato tailpiece, Vintage Deluxe tuners with keystone buttons, and gold Top Hat knobs, ensuring modern performance reliability without sacrificing old-school vibe. The Bigsby vibrato tailpiece allows for player-controlled pitch modulation of everything from chords to single notes, for even more expressiveness in your playing.
The Les Paul Standard 50s with Bigsby stands as a testament to the first Gibson Golden Era—an era defined by innovation, craftsmanship, and pure musicality. Complete with a Gibson hardshell case, it’s a guitar that looks, feels, and sounds like a direct line to rock ’n’ roll history. Whether you’re a purist, a collector, or simply someone who appreciates timeless design, this instrument remains a beacon of what made the Les Paul an enduring classic.
