The famous Hummingbird, now with a cutaway for even more versatility
Introduced in 1960 as the first Gibson square-shoulder acoustic model, the unmistakable Hummingbird™ has become one of the most popular acoustic guitars ever made and the choice of countless players across generations and genres. The Hummingbird becomes even more expressive in the Hummingbird Standard EC, which adds a cutaway for increased access to the upper frets. It also now comes equipped with the Gibson-exclusive, custom-voiced Baggs™ HiFi DNA™ pickup system, delivering the guitar’s distinctive voice and every nuance of your playing with exceptional realism when amplified.
Like the Hummingbird Standard, the Hummingbird Standard EC pairs a solid mahogany back and sides with a solid Sitka spruce top. Scalloped X-bracing supports the top, while multi-ply binding frames the square-shoulder body. This proven construction is equally capable of holding down the rhythm in the hands of a rock ’n’ roll sideman or accompanying the most nuanced performance under the fingers of today’s alternative singer-songwriter. The gloss nitrocellulose lacquer finish completes the familiar Hummingbird appearance.
The cutaway significantly increases access to the upper frets, making the Hummingbird Standard EC a natural choice for lead players and others who require greater note range and enhanced expressiveness. Its mahogany neck has a comfortable SlimTaper™ profile and is fitted with a bound rosewood fretboard with a 12-inch radius, 20 standard frets, and mother-of-pearl split parallelogram inlays.
A rosewood belly-up bridge is fitted with a TUSQ® saddle, while the headstock features a bone nut and gold Grover® Rotomatic® tuners. The tortoiseshell-colored pickguard displays the iconic Hummingbird graphics that have made the model instantly recognizable to generations of players and music fans.
Inside, the Hummingbird Standard EC is now equipped with the all-new Gibson-exclusive Baggs™ HiFi DNA™ pickup system. This active system uses two lightweight sensors mounted on the internal bridge plate. The sensors are matched with optimized individual preamps to deliver full-bodied, amplified acoustic tone that lets the guitar’s character and personality come through when amplified, with no impact on the unamplified tone. The Baggs HiFi DNA system offers comparable gain-before-feedback to an under-saddle pickup. The system also includes soundhole-mounted volume and tone controls that are quick and easy to access while playing, and all but invisible to your audience.
The Hummingbird Standard EC combines the celebrated versatility and legendary style of the Hummingbird with the added freedom of a cutaway. It comes ready for the stage and studio in a hardshell case.
