Epiphone launches Mike Dirnt signature Grabber G-3 bass

Wired for versatile humbucking combinations, the Epiphone Mike Dirnt Grabber G-3 is a salute to the bass that took punk rock from the East Bay to the rest of the world

Epiphone has teamed up with Green Day legend Mike Dirnt for the release of the Epiphone Mike Dirnt Grabber G-3 signature bass—a tribute to the beloved instrument that Mike used across countless Green Day hits and for shows around the world in front of millions of fans. The new signature bass is available now worldwide in Silverburst and Natural finishes, with the Natural version exclusive to Epiphone.com and Gibson Garage locations.

Mike used his original G-3 on the Green Day’s landmark 1994 album, Dookie, most notably on the song “Longview,” celebrating the album’s 30th anniversary in 2024. Meanwhile, the Grabber bass shape was revived in the Epiphone catalog last year after decades of demand. Known as a 70s-era classic alongside its sister G-3 and Ripper models, these punchy Gibson basses have not only been loved by Mike, but also by other legendary bassists such as Gene Simmons, Krist Novoselic, and Lou Barlow. Check out the video below to hear Mike explain the origin story of his original bass and the development process behind his new Epiphone signature model.

The Epiphone Mike Dirnt Grabber G-3 honors Mike’s work in shaping modern punk, blending classic construction with future-ready performance features. It has a double-cutaway maple body and a 34-inch scale three-piece maple neck. Depending on the finish, players can choose between an ebony (Silverburst) or maple (Natural) fretboard, each featuring dot inlays and 20 medium-jumbo frets.

The headstock has the classic Grabber “V™” shape, and hosts open-gear bass tuners with historic clover buttons. A bone nut enhances resonance, while a Leo Quan® Badass II™ bridge delivers powerful attack, sustain, and full adjustability. Strings run through the body and are anchored with ferrules on the back, contributing to rich tone and lasting sustain.

Three Gibson G-3 pickups are the heart that powers this bass, handcrafted in Nashville, TN, at the Gibson Pickup Shop. Wired in a unique “buck-and-a-half” configuration, the trio offers versatile humbucking combinations via a three-way toggle switch—neck and middle, all three engaged, or middle and bridge—alongside master volume and tone controls. To keep it safe and secure, a hardshell case is included with every purchase.

Mike Dirnt continues to perform with his original Gibson G-3 bass alongside his Epiphone signature models today, including on Green Day’s most recent global trek, The Saviors Tour. Visit Green Day’s official website for more.
