Painted Over Goldtop 1957 Les Paul Standard Reissue

This Gibson Custom Select 1957 Les Paul™ Standard Reissue is finished in a very special way that is rare on any Gibson Custom product. Gibson Custom Select offers highly customized instruments with handpicked features chosen by Gibson’s experts. These guitars are made in small batches by the skilled artisans at Gibson Custom. Special features can include custom finishes, hand-selected electronics, and unique hardware specifications. This Gibson Custom Select 1957 Les Paul Standard Reissue features several customizations, including a “painted over” Goldtop finish, a push-pull control for coil-splitting the neck pickup, a 1960 Slim Taper V2 neck profile, and Murphy Lab Ultra Heavy Aging.

In 1957, the Les Paul Standard underwent quite a transformation. With the introduction of the humbucker™ pickup, Gibson added these new hum-canceling pickups to the Les Paul Standard, which had previously featured a Goldtop finish with P-90 pickups. This hum-canceling technology helped eliminate 60-cycle hum, making recordings clearer. Later on, these pickups made overdriven amps less noisy when the guitar was not being played. The construction remained the same as the previous year, featuring a solid mahogany body with a two-piece maple cap, a solid mahogany neck with a solid rosewood fretboard, and a Stop Bar tailpiece with an ABR-1 bridge.

This Gibson Custom Select 1957 Les Paul Standard Reissue is available in three “painted over” finishes, including Ebony over Goldtop, Pelham Blue over Goldtop, and Inverness Green and Pelham Blue over Goldtop. The Inverness Green and Pelham Blue over Goldtop finish simulates the top layer of nitrocellulose lacquer aging to a yellow hue while the back remains intact, giving the guitar a two-tone finish. Each of these guitars features the original Goldtop finish underneath the solid colors on top and includes a natural finish on the back and neck. The Murphy Lab Ultra Heavy Aging reveals the Gold finish on the top.

The neck profile has been modified to a 1960 SlimTaper™ V2, as if the neck was sanded down during the guitar refinishing. A push-pull potentiometer was added to the volume control on the neck pickup for coil splitting. This option adds a bell-like timbre to the neck pickup but can also be activated while playing in the middle position. This kind of modification, featuring push-pull potentiometers on a Historic reissue, can only be found through Gibson Custom Select and Made to Measure.

Featuring custom “painted over” finishes, a 1960 SlimTaper V2 neck profile, and a push-pull control for coil splitting the neck pickup, this Gibson Custom Select 1957 Les Paul Standard Reissue has custom modifications hand-selected by Gibson’s experts. This guitar may look like a modified Les Paul Standard from the 1950s, but it has modifications that are perfect for today’s player who prefers a slimmer neck and more tonal options. Included with this guitar is a Gibson Custom Certificate of Authenticity and a reissue hardshell case.
