Exceptional Player – “Wrong in
"Exceptional Player – “Wrong in All the Right Ways” This Mod Collection Les Paul Standard ’60s in Orange Punch is something special. On paper it’s a Standard, but in the hands it feels carefully chosen rather than mass-produced. The ’59 Tribute pickups are the standout — open, articulate, and dynamic. Clean tones have air and depth, and with gain the notes bloom instead of collapsing. It responds beautifully to picking dynamics and volume-knob changes, which makes it incredibly expressive to play. The slim ’60s neck is fast and comfortable without feeling sterile, and the natural gloss finish is a big plus — smooth, non-sticky, and far better than the heavy red lacquer found on some burst models. The visible grain in both the neck and body gives the impression that the wood was selected with intention. The guitar feels lively and resonant, even unplugged. Aesthetically, Gibson nailed it. The Cherry Orange burst top with subtle metallic flake is tasteful and unique, while the Candy Metallic Cherry Orange back and sides add depth without being flashy. No pickguard, no switch ring, no MOD stamp — just clean lines and confidence. Even the small imperfections (like a slightly imperfect inlay set) add character rather than detract. Shipping wasn’t perfect — the case took a minor hit and lost pressure — but the guitar arrived with no damage, perfectly playable, and immediately inspiring. The instrument clearly did its job. This is a true player’s guitar: resonant, responsive, and inspiring. It doesn’t feel like a placeholder or a compromise — it feels like a reference point. I can already tell this won’t be my last Gibson. Highly recommended."
