This Gibson Custom Select Les Paul™ Axcess Standard features a striking Lemon Burst finish that blends the classic look of a vintage Les Paul with the modern design elements of the Axcess platform. Gibson Custom Select instruments include handpicked customizations chosen by Gibson’s expert team. Built in small batches at the Gibson Custom Shop in Nashville, Tennessee, these guitars can feature special finishes, unique hardware, and customized electronics. Using the same structure as the Made to Measure program, Gibson Custom Select models offer unique specifications that set them apart from normal production offerings. The standout detail on this Les Paul Axcess Standard is its Lemon Burst finish, which replaces the typical DC Rust finish used on the production version. This model merges traditional Les Paul styling with modern innovations, including a Floyd Rose® vibrato and body and neck contours, making it ideal for players seeking a timeless look paired with cutting-edge functionality.
There are several key construction differences between the Les Paul Axcess Standard and a traditional Les Paul Standard with historic specifications. The body features a player-focused comfort contour carved into the mahogany on the bass side at the guitar’s waist. It also incorporates Modern Weight Relief, achieved by carving out sections of mahogany before the AAA flame maple top is applied—unlike historic-spec models, which use no weight relief. The solid mahogany neck has a Les Paul Axcess profile and includes a contoured neck joint at the 16th fret. While a long neck tenon is still used, the contour provides uninterrupted access to the upper register. The Apex headstock design reinforces the headstock and uses a 14-degree angle, compared to the 17-degree angle of historic Les Paul models. The neck profile itself is modeled directly from the Authentic 1959 shape but incorporates performance-oriented contours that modernize its classic feel focused comfort contour.
A pair of Gibson 498T and 490R humbuckers™ power this Les Paul Axcess Standard. These pickups are present in guitars from the Modern Collection, which fit perfectly with the Les Paul Axcess Standard. Push/pull potentiometers enable series/parallel switching, giving players expanded tonal versatility. Activating the push/pull controls introduces additional sonic options that complement the guitar’s performance-driven body and neck contours.
Pairing vintage aesthetics with modern capabilities makes for a guitar that is meant to be played on the road and in the studio. Included with the guitar is a hardshell case and Gibson Custom Certificate of Authenticity.
