A limited edition 1969 Flying V Reissue reimagined in Aqua Mist
The 1969 Flying V™ Reissue, Gloss, in Aqua Mist celebrates one of the most visually compelling guitars ever to emerge from Gibson during the late 1960s, reimagined by the artisans of the Gibson Custom Shop as part of the Limited Edition Collection. Drawing inspiration from years of Made to Measure custom orders and the creativity of the luthiers at the Gibson Custom Shop, this limited-edition model blends period-correct detailing with a bold custom color finish that captures the adventurous spirit of the era. Crafted in Nashville, Tennessee, it stays true to the radical silhouette first introduced in 1958. It is designed for players who want vintage character, exceptional playability, and the unmistakable attitude of one of the most influential Gibson designs.
The solid mahogany body maintains the sharp, futuristic lines of the Flying V, finished in gloss nitrocellulose lacquer that allows the Aqua Mist color to radiate with metallic depth and vintage authenticity. There is no binding on the body and no weight relief—just a pure, resonant mahogany platform shaped for power, projection, and unmistakable stage presence.
A matching mahogany neck features the 1960s SlimTaper™ D profile, offering a fast, comfortable feel that responds beautifully to both rhythm and lead playing. The long neck tenon ensures exceptional stability and sustain, while the rosewood fretboard with mother-of-pearl split diamond inlays brings an element of elegance to the guitar’s forward-looking aesthetic. Reissue medium jumbo frets, a 12-inch fretboard radius, single-ply binding, and a Corian® nut complete a neck designed for expressive playability.
A pair of Custombucker Alnico 3 pickups delivers the warm, open, and harmonically rich character associated with late 1960s Gibson models. With two volume controls, a master tone knob, and a three-way pickup selector switch, the wiring setup offers tonal versatility, ranging from sweet cleans to authoritative crunch. The ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic™ bridge pairs with a Stop Bar tailpiece for full action and intonation adjustability, and rock-solid intonation. Chrome hardware, Kluson® Deluxe tuners, white plastics, black Witch Hat control knobs, and chrome pickup covers all contribute to an authentic late 60s appearance.
Each 1969 Flying V Reissue includes a Lifton™ reissue hardshell case and a Certificate of Authenticity, underscoring its place in the Gibson Custom Limited Edition Collection. The result is a striking, meticulously crafted instrument paying tribute to a pivotal year in the Flying V’s evolution while offering a unique aesthetic twist through its Aqua Mist finish. It’s a bold statement piece with the sound, feel, and craftsmanship of Gibson Custom at its finest.
