Les Paul in the Style of an ES-295
This Gibson Custom Select 1956 Les Paul™ Standard Reissue is completely customized and pays homage to one of Gibson’s most iconic models, the ES-295™. Gibson Custom Select offers guitars with unique specifications, including special construction, handpicked electronics, and much more. These guitars are designed by Gibson’s experts and are made in small batches by the skilled artisans at Gibson Custom in both Bozeman, Montana, and Nashville, Tennessee. This 1956 Les Paul Reissue has been customized on nearly every part of the guitar, from the chambered body to the split-parallelogram fretboard inlays.
The Gibson ES-295 was first introduced in 1952 as an upgraded aesthetic version of the Gibson ES-175. The ES-175 and ES-295 were hollowbody guitars made similarly to the ES-330, with their pressed, laminated maple and poplar bodies with Dogear P-90 pickups. This 1956 Les Paul Standard Reissue is a play on an alternative-history angle, where the ES-295 stylings were transferred from the Les Paul model instead of the ES-175. The history of music would have been different if, for instance, Scotty Moore had picked up a Les Paul to play alongside Elvis rather than an ES-295. The body construction differs from the ES-175, using chambered construction rather than hollowbody construction. This chambered construction involves removing material from a single piece of mahogany with a solid two-piece maple top glued to the body. Another construction difference is that the pickups are mounted with Soapbar covers instead of the Dogear covers found on the ES-295, which still retain the P-90 pickups underneath. While the ES-295 is not in the current Gibson lineup, this guitar is the closest thing to playing the legendary model.
The base model of this guitar is a 1956 Les Paul Standard Reissue, which still has a Chunky 50s D neck profile, Soapbar P-90 pickups, and a low Gibson logo on the headstock. Differences with this guitar from the base model include a chambered mahogany body, carved f-holes, split-parallelogram fretboard inlays, a Bigsby B7 vibrato, and an All Double Gold finish. While the ES-295 also featured a trapeze tailpiece, vintage examples are highly regarded if they had a Bigsby® B7 tailpiece, which explains the Bigsby customization on this guitar. These hand-selected features are only possible through Gibson Custom Select and Made to Measure programs, which create unique and rare instruments. Whether you’re playing along to an Elvis record or admire a mashup of classic models, this Gibson Custom Select 1956 Les Paul Standard Reissue will surely stand out in any environment. This guitar has all the aesthetics of an ES-295 with the modern construction techniques of a chambered 1956 Les Paul Standard Reissue. Included with the guitar is a reissue hardshell case and a Gibson Custom Certificate of Authenticity.
