The original Gibson Custombucker pickups are standard equipment in the Gibson Custom Historic Reissue guitars and are beloved by players worldwide for their legendary Patent Applied For tone. Now, the Gibson Pickup Shop is proud to release the Custombucker Plus. Like the standard Custombucker, it results from years of research and testing by Gibson engineers, resulting in a pickup replicating the sonic magic of the original Patent Applied For humbucker™ pickups from the 50s. Each Custombucker Plus uses Alnico 3 magnets for a warm, sweet tone that accurately delivers the sonic characteristics of those highly cherished early humbuckers. Like the original Patent Applied For humbuckers, the Custombucker Plus uses 42 AWG wire and features extra windings that give it a slightly hotter output–like you’ll find on some vintage Patent Applied For humbuckers–making the Custombucker Plus ideal for use in the bridge position when paired with a regular Custombucker in the neck position. The windings on the coils are unbalanced and left unpotted for a historically accurate pickup that will please even the most discriminating player. The Custombucker Plus is available with True Historic gold and True Historic nickel covers with double black bobbins underneath and in uncovered versions with your choice of double black or zebra bobbins.
