The latest word in Thunderbirds, now with a rosewood fretboard

What do you think of first when someone mentions a Thunderbird™ bass? The distinctive shape that legendary automotive designer Ray Dietrich created? The sustain-enhancing nine-ply neck-through-body construction? The low-end punch from the two powerful bass humbucker™ pickups? Classic eye-catching, auto-inspired custom colors? Inspired by the iconic, groundbreaking reverse-body Gibson Thunderbird, Epiphone is proud to introduce the updated Thunderbird ’64. Just like the vintage Gibson T-Bird basses of that era, the new Thunderbird ’64 features all of the classic design elements that made the originals iconic, from the nine-ply mahogany and walnut neck-through-body construction right down to the instantly-recognizable hot-stamped Thunderbird logo on the three-ply pickguard.

Once you take it out of the included premium gig bag and plug it in, you’ll immediately notice the Thunderbird ’64’s deep, rich tone, which is brought to life with a pair of powerful ProBucker™ 760 Bass humbucker pickups paired with CTS® potentiometers. Each pickup has its own volume control, so you can use them individually or blend them in any ratio you prefer. A master tone control adds further tonal adjustment capabilities. While the focus here is all about vintage vibe, modern features like a new GraphTech® nut and Clover-button tuners with a 19:1 gear ratio keep the tuning more solid than ever, and each string can be individually intonated thanks to the Epiphone Vintage Bass Tune-O-Matic™ bridge. The strings solidly anchor into the neck-through-body with an Epiphone Vintage Bass Claw tailpiece, which contributes to the Thunderbird ’64’s excellent sustain and rich tone.

The Thunderbird ’64 features a 34” scale, nine-ply mahogany/walnut neck-through-body with mahogany body wings, just like the vintage models. This construction method delivers incredible stability and strength. The neck has a comfortable, 60s Rounded Bass profile that sits perfectly in the hand and delivers easy playability up and down the full length of the rosewood fretboard, which is equipped with 20 medium jumbo frets and adorned with pearloid dot inlays.

An ideal bass choice for players of all genres, and available in Ember Red and Silver Mist, the Thunderbird ’64 delivers the specifications, look, playing experience, and tone of a priceless vintage Thunderbird bass, all now within reach of every player, and ideal for every stage.
