1957 Gibson Southern Jumbo, Serial Number U2284 12

The flat-top Southern Jumbo has long been a favorite of artists of every stripe, from Woody Guthrie and Kris Kristofferson to Sheryl Crow. Introduced in 1942, it offered a step up from the iconic J-45™, with upgraded trim, inlays, and binding. Built with the same round-shouldered body and tonewood pairing, it delivered signature Gibson thump with a bit of extra flash.

This Gibson Certified Vintage 1957 Southern Jumbo is a loud and resonant example in very clean condition. Playwear is minimal, with the most notable being some pick wear around the soundhole. The headstock shows a few small lacquer touchups around the edges, and a short section of fretboard binding near the soundhole appears to have been replaced cleanly.

The guitar has had work done at Gibson Repair & Restoration, including a neck reset, new bone nut and saddle, reglued bridge, repaired crack near the pickguard edge, and a stabilized neck block. It’s a killer flat-top ready for many more decades of play in the hands of its next owner.

This Southern Jumbo comes with both its original chipboard case and a new, unreleased Lifton™ Historic brown and pink hardshell case, and includes a Certificate of Authenticity, Letter of Appraisal, and new Limited Lifetime Warranty.
