Initially intended as a student model, it didn’t take long for professional musicians to recognize the guitar’s excellent playability and sound quality and put it to use. Over the years, many of these guitars have been modified by players. One of the more popular modifications is replacing the original single-coil Dogear P-90 pickup with a humbucker™ for better hum resistance. Now, Gibson is proud to offer an SG Junior with exactly those specs, except this one comes straight from the craftory, without the sometimes questionable quality of third-party modifications. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe SG Junior with Humbucker features all of the SG Junior quality, specifications, and features that you’d expect. It starts with the legendary, double-cutaway mahogany body, complete with the horns and body contours that define its instantly recognizable profile and make it so comfortable to play. The double cutaways also provide unfettered access to the entire length of the mahogany neck, which features a fast-playing SlimTaper™ profile. Coupled with the lightweight and compact SG body shape, this makes it a great choice for smaller-statured players and those with smaller hands.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe neck is topped with a rosewood fretboard with a 12” fretboard radius that delivers easy chording and smooth bends. The fretboard features 22 medium jumbo frets and acrylic dot inlays. Like all Gibson guitars, the SG Junior with Humbucker is run through a Plek® machine to ensure the frets and low-friction GraphTech® nut are dressed and set up precisely, so the guitar will have optimum playability throughout the entire length of the fretboard from the moment you first pick it up. The Graph Tech nut also works in tandem with the white-button Gibson Deluxe tuners to ensure solid, reliable tuning. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWhat sets this SG Junior apart from the norm is the electronics. Instead of the classic single-coil Dogear P-90 normally found on SG Juniors, this one is equipped with a Custombucker humbucking pickup for classic Gibson humbucker tone with no single-coil hum or noise. It delivers warm lows, sweet, airy highs, and a pronounced, musical midrange. The Custombucker is hand-wired to volume and tone controls and an Orange Drop® tone capacitor. The two controls are capped with black Top Hat knobs. While straightforward and easy to use, there is a wide range of tonal possibilities available by adjusting the settings of those two controls. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe SG Junior with Humbucker is fitted with a compensated Wraparound bridge for proper intonation.
