SJ-200 Standard in Cobra Burst
This Gibson Custom Select SJ-200 Standard features a striking Cobra Burst finish that brings a flash of modernity to a classic design. Other special features include a striped ebony bridge and fretboard and gold hardware for a more unique feature set. Gibson Custom Select instruments have unique features such as special finishes, hardware, and electronics that are hand-picked by Gibson’s experts at the Custom Shop. These special guitars are made in small batches by skilled artisans in Bozeman, Montana.
The SJ-200™ has been hailed as “King of the Flat-Tops” since its introduction in the 1930s with its Super Jumbo body design and intricate inlays. Featuring a solid spruce top with solid figured maple back and sides, the SJ-200 is a unique instrument with its body shape and size along with the tonewood combination. Featuring a long scale length of 25.5 inches, the SJ-200 has a longer scale length than the smaller J-45. This longer scale length gives the guitar a striking attack with piano-like sustain that is not found on other Gibson acoustics apart from the Advanced Jumbo from the Historic Collection. The SJ-200 is a classic for a reason and has stood the test of time as the “King of the Flat-Tops.”
This Gibson Custom Select SJ-200 Standard features a Cobra Burst finish, which is first applied as a stain with the burst sprayed to blend the edges of the body. This gives the spruce top a cross-hatching effect that can only be achieved by this pre-staining technique. AAA flamed maple back and sides are on display through the stained finish. Striped ebony takes the place of the normal rosewood on the bridge and fingerboard. This specification is normally found on guitars like the Western Classic and SJ-200 Custom. Graduated crown inlays made from mother-of-pearl adorn the entire striped ebony fretboard, with the end of the fretboard featuring the signature “birdsbeak” design that is also found on the SJ-200 Standard. Featuring western motifs to match the fretboard, the signature SJ-200 pickguard is etched and painted. Also crafted from striped ebony, the Moustache™ bridge features a 2-bar design inlaid with mother-of-pearl. Gold hardware is featured throughout the guitar with Grover® Rotomatic® Kidney tuners.
While the SJ-200 is typically found in traditional colors like Heritage Cherry Sunburst or Antique Natural, this Gibson Custom Select SJ-200 Standard features a modern Cobra Burst finish to bring some contemporary style to a classic model. Along with some other special details like the striped ebony bridge and fretboard and gold hardware, this guitar is set apart from a normal production model with standard specifications. Included with the guitar is a hardshell case and Gibson Custom Certificate of Authenticity.
