Humbucker-loaded 1957 Les Paul Junior Reissue
This Gibson Custom Select 1957 Les Paul™ Junior Reissue has rare features on a classic, stripped-down model. Gibson Custom Select makes guitar dreams possible through customizations that range from unique finishes, custom electronics, and other small details that make these instruments a little extra special. These guitars are designed by Gibson’s experts in conjunction with Gibson Custom to create these unique instruments for the person who wants something a little out of the ordinary. This 1957 Les Paul Junior Reissue features an uncovered Double Black humbucker™, which takes the place of the standard Dogear P-90 pickup, and a Cardinal Red finish, replacing the historical Vintage Sunburst or TV Yellow finishes typically found on this model.
The Gibson Les Paul Junior was originally designed and released in the mid-1950s to cater to the needs of beginner guitarists with its simpler design, while the Les Paul Standard was equipped with more player-centric and aesthetically pleasing upgrades. The player-centric upgrades on the Les Paul Standard include a carved maple top over a mahogany body, two pickups, and an ABR-1 bridge with a Stop Bar tailpiece. The aesthetic upgrades include body and neck binding, trapezoid fretboard inlays, and an inlaid Gibson logo on the headstock. The stripped-down Les Paul Junior features a slab mahogany body, wraparound bridge, a single Dogear P-90 pickup, and a silkscreen Gibson logo on the headstock. The overall differences that result from these features make the Les Paul Standard and Les Paul Junior significantly distinct instruments, despite both models sharing a similar name, neck profile, and body shape.
This Gibson Custom Select 1957 Les Paul Junior Reissue features a humbucker pickup in place of the normal Dogear P-90 pickup, which brings some tonal characteristics of a Les Paul Standard to the simplistic platform of the Les Paul Junior. The Cardinal Red finish, a historical Gibson finish predominantly used on the Gibson Firebird in the mid-1960s, is rare to find on any production model or custom-ordered guitar. Finished off with Murph Lab Heavy Aging, this guitar is right at home on arena stages and dive bar corners alike. The inspiration behind the design originated from the idea that this vintage guitar was purchased secondhand in the 1970s, modified with a humbucker, refinished in a solid color, and played all around the world. It’s not uncommon to find vintage guitars that were modified and refinished in the 1970s or 1980s. While that is not typically done today due to the value of these vintage guitars, these modified guitars are often one-of-a-kind guitars. The unique part of this guitar is that these modifications come straight from Gibson while looking as if it has been played every night for the last 50 years.
Over the years, the Les Paul Junior has been adopted by players who play a variety of styles of music. Known for its no-nonsense approach, the Les Paul Junior was intended for students, but has found its way on the biggest stages of the world. This Gibson Custom Select 1957 Les Paul Junior Reissue comes loaded with a humbucker, custom Cardinal Red finish, and has the Murphy Lab Heavy Aged treatment, making this guitar one rare bird. Included with the guitar is a Gibson Custom Certificate of Authenticity and a reissue hardshell case
