A meticulous recreation of the most influential Flying V ever made
Iconic UFO, Scorpions, and Michael Schenker Group guitarist Michael Schenker made his 1971 Flying V™ famous in the 70s and 80s, inspiring many hard rock and heavy metal players in the process. Michael’s Flying V was a 1971 Medallion Flying V model, with Medallion #56. It was originally Cherry Red, then painted Black, and later the iconic Black and White. Michael used it to record the first three UFO albums, and in the process, he and his Flying V had an enormous influence on hard rock and metal guitarists of the 80s. The guitar is now in the collection of Kirk Hammett. Kirk and many others believe it may be the most influential Flying V ever made.
Now, Gibson Custom is proud to introduce the Michael Schenker 1971 Flying V Collector’s Edition. Recreated from 3D scans of the original guitar, this Gibson Custom recreation features the iconic Black and White paint scheme and is aged by the Murphy Lab to match the original. The Michael Schenker 1971 Flying V Collector’s Edition features a mahogany body with a white pickguard that has its upper half painted black, and a three-piece mahogany neck with a volute and a thin artist profile that is 3D scanned from the original guitar. The neck is topped with a one-piece rosewood fretboard with 22 medium jumbo frets and cellulose dot inlays. The Flying V headstock continues the black and white theme, and has a half white, half black truss rod cover installed, along with Schaller M6 tuning machines and a Corian® nut.
The Michael Schenker 1971 Flying V Collector’s Edition is powered by a pair of uncovered T-Top humbuckers™ with Alnico 5 magnets, each hand-wired to individual volume controls, along with a master tone control. All three controls use 500k CTS® potentiometers. The three-way pickup selector switch and 1/4” output jack are from Switchcraft®.
The Michael Schenker 1971 Flying V Collector’s Edition is limited to only 50 guitars, each hand-signed by Michael Schenker on the back of the headstock and packed in a custom replica flight case with Michael Schenker Group graphics. A #56 Medallion, displayed on a commemorative mahogany block, and a Certificate of Authenticity in a matching black and white folio, are also included. Don’t miss your opportunity to own a virtual clone of what many players consider to be the most influential Flying V guitar ever made, which was made famous by one of the most influential hard rock and metal guitarists of all time—Michael Schenker.
