The Gibson RD has been a longtime fan favorite, and we’re proud to bring the RD back to the Epiphone lineup with the new Futura RD Custom, a stunning, modern take on a design that was way ahead of its time when Gibson first released it back in 1977. The RD draws inspiration from both the Explorer™ and Firebird™, and the mashup resulted in a unique appearance all its own. The curvaceous mahogany body has 7-ply binding on the top, while the back features a rear contour for comfort. It is equipped with a LockTone™ Tune-O-Matic™ bridge and LockTone Stop Bar tailpiece for outstanding intonation and sustain, while Posi-Lok™ strap buttons keep your strap securely attached. The 25.5” scale mahogany neck has an ultra-comfortable, fast-playing Modern C profile, and is topped with a bound ebony fretboard with 22 stainless steel medium jumbo frets and Super 400-style pearloid split block inlays. The fretboard also features a 10”-14” compound radius, making chording and string bends equally effortless, while the 25.5” scale length makes it an excellent choice for drop tunings. The 5-ply bound Kalamazoo headstock is equipped with locking Grover® Rotomatic® tuners, a Graph Tech® nut, and the Epiphone logo and large Custom split diamond inlays, both in mother-of-pearl.
Powering the Futura RD Custom are a pair of Epiphone’s new ProBucker™ Ignite humbucker™ pickups that can hit your amp hard when you want to, while retaining clarity. Push/pull volume and tone controls provide coil-splitting and phase options for even more tonal versatility. "First of all, it looks amazing, gleaming finish, the colour shifting paintwork is gorgeous. Can’t find a rough edge anywhere, the frets, for example, have the smoothest rounded ends you will find. It’s a big guitar, which suits me, but not too heavy. It arrived well set up, pretty much in tune even, and little adjustment needs to the intonation. Tone wise this guitar really rocks, chunky rhythm from the bridge pickup and super smooth at the neck. These are hot pickups, I needed to turn down to stay clean on my amp’s clean channel. The out of phase setting brings in a different tone again, and all the switch gear works very solidly. All the hardware is super high quality, from the Grover locking tubers to the knobs, All in all I’m very pleased, not a cheap guitar, but a lot for the money."

"It is an awesome guitar and very different from the others I have. The sound and feel are fantastic. It's probably the most I've sent on a guitar, but I feel it is good value. It would have been nice if it had. Matching pick (not one with it), maybe you do a pack with all the colours of the different models. I think everyone would love it. In addition, I don't think I would have been able to get this model, but behold, it is on the guitar rack!"

"Simply amazing. . . worth the wait and every penny spent, it was even in tune when I received it and it still is. The color is awesome and the RD shape is comfortable to play while sitting and hangs well with a strap. Seriously considering the V in yellow next, I can't say enough good things about the Futura line!"
