This Gibson Custom Select J-50™ 50s in Antique Natural features performance-focused appointments while retaining its vintage aesthetic. From unique finishes to rare tonewoods, each Custom Select instrument features unique appointments that can only be found through Gibson Custom Select and Made to Measure. These guitars are handcrafted in small batches by highly skilled artisans in Bozeman, Montana. Unique features on this Gibson Custom Select J-50 50s are a red spruce top, red spruce X-bracing, hide glue construction, and a HiFi pickup system.
The Gibson J-50 has the same features as the famous J-45™ but with a natural finish instead of a sunburst finish. Players like Bob Dylan and James Taylor made this model popular during the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s with its more stripped-down appearance. Vintage J-50 acoustic guitars are sometimes harder to find because the spruce used for the top must be free from any mineral streaks or knots; otherwise, the translucent finish would show any flaws. The same classic combination of tonewoods is used on the J-45, which includes a spruce top, mahogany back and sides, a mahogany neck, and a rosewood fretboard and bridge.
The Gibson Custom Select J-50 50s features vintage appointments such as a Rounded neck profile reminiscent of neck profiles that are found on vintage examples from the 1950s. A Gibson silkscreen logo and white button tuners are featured on the headstock, just like vintage examples from the same era. What makes this J-50 50s different from the rest lies underneath the skin. Red spruce is used for the top, as well as scalloped X-bracing. All these high-quality tonewoods are constructed with hide glue, a traditional method of constructing guitars just like they were made in the Golden Era. Loaded with an L.R. Baggs™ HiFi pickup system, this J-50 is also ready for the stage and studio with a pickup and preamp that reproduces the guitar’s natural sound.
