The famous Hummingbird, now with a rosewood cutaway body for even more expressiveness

Introduced in 1960 as the first Gibson square-shoulder acoustic model, the unmistakable Hummingbird™ has become one of the most popular acoustic guitars ever made and the choice of countless players across generations and genres. The Hummingbird Standard Rosewood EC expands that range with a rosewood back and sides, a cutaway for increased access to the upper frets, and the Gibson-exclusive, custom-voiced Baggs™ HiFi DNA™ pickup system for amplified sound that preserves the guitar’s distinctive character and every nuance of your playing.

The pairing of a rosewood body with a Sitka spruce top adds a bit more bass and harmonic complexity to the Hummingbird’s tonal character. Scalloped X-bracing supports the top, with multi-ply binding framing the square-shoulder body. This proven construction is equally capable of holding down the rhythm in the hands of a rock ‘n’ roll sideman or accompanying the most nuanced performance under the fingers of today’s alternative singer-songwriter. The gloss nitrocellulose lacquer finish complements the darker tonewoods and the classic Hummingbird silhouette.

The cutaway significantly increases access to the upper frets, making the Hummingbird Standard Rosewood EC a strong choice for lead players and others who require greater note range and enhanced expressiveness. The mahogany neck has a comfortable SlimTaper™ profile and is attached with a compound dovetail neck-to-body joint using hot hide glue. It is fitted with a bound rosewood fretboard with a 12-inch radius, 20 standard frets, and mother-of-pearl parallelogram inlays.

The rosewood belly-up bridge is equipped with a TUSQ® saddle and bridge pins, while a TUSQ nut works with gold Grover® Rotomatic® tuners to provide smooth operation and dependable tuning. The tortoiseshell-colored pickguard carries the iconic Hummingbird graphics, and the headstock features the Gibson logo and crown in mother of pearl.

Inside, the Hummingbird Standard Rosewood EC is now equipped with the all-new Gibson-exclusive Baggs™ HiFi DNA™ pickup system. This active system uses two lightweight sensors mounted on the internal bridge plate. The sensors are matched with optimized individual preamps to deliver full-bodied, amplified acoustic tone that lets the guitar’s character and personality come through when amplified, with no impact on the unamplified tone. The Baggs HiFi DNA system offers comparable gain-before-feedback to an under-saddle pickup. The system also includes soundhole-mounted volume and tone controls that are quick and easy to access while playing, and all but invisible to your audience.

The Hummingbird Standard Rosewood EC combines the rich tonal character of rosewood with the added freedom of a cutaway. It comes ready for the stage and studio in a hardshell case.
