Light Aged 1957 Les Paul Custom in Antique Cherry

This Gibson Custom Select 1957 Les Paul™ Custom Reissue has special features that are only available through Gibson Custom Select. Gibson Custom Select offers special features like custom finishes, special hardware specifications, and unique combinations of all these features. These specifications are handpicked by Gibson’s experts and are made in small batches by the artisans at the Gibson Custom Shop. This Gibson Custom Select 1957 Les Paul Custom Reissue features a two-pickup configuration, an Antique Cherry finish, and Murphy Lab Light Aging.

The Les Paul Custom was first released in 1953, shortly after the Les Paul model was introduced in 1952. While the Les Paul Custom was introduced with a P-90 bridge pickup and a unique neck pickup, nicknamed the “Staple” pickup, the model underwent a transformation in 1957. With the introduction of the humbucker™ pickup, P-90 and Staple pickups were replaced with the humbucker throughout most of Gibson’s lineup, which included the Les Paul Custom. During the original iteration of the Les Paul Custom, these guitars were made from a single piece of mahogany, without a maple top. This type of construction gives the Les Paul Custom a unique voice from the maple-capped Les Paul models. The Les Paul Custom was given more ornate aesthetics, such as multi-ply binding around the top and back of the body and headstock. Mother-of-pearl block inlays are featured on the ebony fretboard as well as the split-diamond design inlaid on the headstock with more mother of pearl.

This Gibson Custom Select 1957 Les Paul Custom Reissue has three unique features, which include a two-pickup configuration, a custom Antique Cherry finish, and Murphy Lab Light Aging. This two-humbucker configuration was available from 1957 to 1960, but this feature had to be custom ordered. The standard finish of a 1957 Les Paul Custom is Ebony, but some did leave the factory in the 1950s in special finishes. This Antique Cherry finish is reminiscent of a few guitars that were custom ordered in those special finishes. To finish off its handpicked features, the guitar received Murphy Lab Light Aging, which gives it finish checking, rolled fretboard edges, and light playing wear across the entire guitar as well as nickel hardware. All other iconic features of the 1957 Les Paul Custom are left intact, including the multi-ply binding and split diamond headstock inlay.

This Gibson Custom Select 1957 Les Paul Custom Reissue is a cool twist on an iconic model that has been played by legends for decades across all genres of music. The Les Paul Custom takes time and skilled artisans to craft with the delicate intricacies that have made the model so iconic. This guitar comes with a reissue Lifton™ hardshell case and a Gibson Custom Certificate of Authenticity.
