Epi LP Custom Modern Quilt- Exclusive B-berry Burst
"I’d been poking around the Epi site looking up different LP specs when I came across the Custom Modern Quilt, Blueberry Burst - Exclusive. . . the finish really caught my eye, but the features of this custom modern with addition of stainless frets made me a buyer. Generally, these exclusive finishes aren’t available for an extended time, so I researched a little quicker than norm. So happy I purchased, as these custom modern spec'ed LP's are no longer available! The guitar is stunning in person, and the neck, frets and modern cutaway/joint are wonderful. Very happy with the weight relief/balance. The set-up was actually quite good out of the box. Shipping was fast, but the lack of packing material around the guitar (thankfully it was in the gig-bag) was very poor. I was honestly surprised the guitar was in good condition when it arrived. The different tones available on this guitar are myriad. I’m not sure why Epi chose the T-type Pro pups for this model, albeit I’m all for having Epi offer different types in a model line. I wasn’t sure I liked them at first, but after working through different settings/amps, I’m really enjoying these T-types. I particularly like the setting of the 3-way switch in middle, with phase knob pulled, bridge pup humbucked & neck pup w/coil split—with amps edged to pick-out-of clean. Two difficulties in the guitar are the 3-way switch and the treble pickup loudness. The 3-way didn’t contact/operate well from the get go—I hoped it would improve with some work-in, but it’s worse and sometimes the neck pup won’t engage at all. The treble pick-up is about a third the volume of the neck in all settings…doesn’t matter if coils are split, etc. Pup height looks correct for both, and string height isn’t too high at the bridge. I sent an e-mail to Epi C. S. to address; hope to hear back from them soon. Also, I would have liked to have the option when purchasing online of upgrading to a better case/hardshell to protect the LP in shipment. This beauty of a guitar deserves it!"
