Gibson Custom Select offers unique specifications on existing models like this 1968 Les Paul Custom Reissue. Customizations can include unique finishes, exotic tonewoods, customized inlays, and other details that make these guitars special. These instruments are made in small batches by the skilled artisans at the Gibson Custom Shop in Nashville, Tennessee. Designed by Gibson’s experts with an eye for detail, these guitars are rare to see out in the wild. Previously exclusive to the Gibson Garage Nashville, this 1968 Les Paul Custom Reissue features a custom Heavy Antique White finish, Murphy Lab Light Aging, and a 3-piece maple neck.

When the Les Paul Custom was made from 1954 to 1960, the body was made of one piece of mahogany. When the Les Paul Custom was reintroduced in 1968, the body construction started to mirror the Les Paul Standard of the 1950s. This combines a unique set of features present on a historic reissue: a one-piece mahogany body mated to a two-piece maple top with multi-ply binding around the top and back of the body. To finish off the Les Paul Custom appointments, an ebony fretboard with block inlays, a multi-ply headstock with a split-diamond inlay, and gold hardware. Combining the recipe that made Les Paul models famous in the late 1950s with the dressed-up appointments from a Les Paul Custom makes for a unique offering in the Gibson lineup.

The most unique specification on this 1968 Les Paul Custom Reissue is not visible through the Heavy Antique White finish. This unique specification is a 3-piece maple neck, which is most famously featured on Les Paul Custom examples made from 1975 to 1981. Since this guitar is a reissue of a 1968 Les Paul Custom, there is no volute on the back of the headstock. Wearing a Heavy Antique White finish that has received the Murphy Lab Light Aging treatment, this 1968 Les Paul Custom Reissue looks as if it has been played around the world a few times. The finishing process uses two coats of antique lacquer, which gives the entire guitar a yellow hue. The Authentic 1968 neck profile is based on real-world vintage examples, which is a C-shaped neck profile. This neck profile is slightly thicker than the Authentic 1959 neck profile featured on the 1959 Les Paul Standard Reissue. Included on all Murphy Lab-aged instruments are extra-rolled fretboard edges, making the entire neck feel broken-in like the rest of the guitar. Loaded with 68 Custom humbucker™ pickups, this guitar not only has the look of a vintage Les Paul Custom, but it has the voice of one. Typical plastics and hardware are featured throughout the guitar, which include black Witch Hat knobs with gold inserts, gold hardware, Kluson® Waffleback® tuners, and black plastics.

This Gibson Custom Select 1968 Les Paul Custom Reissue is inspired by the white Les Paul Custom guitars played by rock stars of the 1970s and 1980s from dive bars to arenas. It looks and feels the part with its aged finish and broken-in playability. Included with the guitar is a reissue hardshell case with a Gibson Custom Certificate of Authenticity.

https://www.gibson.com/de/products/gibson-custom-select-1968-les-paul-custom-reissue-light-aged-heavy-antique-white
