Job Summary: The job of the Gibson Custom Shop Team Lead is to directly lead and coordinate the activities of production team members in Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost and People as well as Gibson’s Core Values and Gibson’s vision for the future.

 

 

  • Essential Functions:
  •  Safety:
    1. Lead by example in following PPE practices, safe work practices and daily workplace safety observations.
    2. Help define, deploy, and manage to Cardinal Safety Rules and General Safety Rules.
    3. Empower and support the broader team in 5s efforts and improvements.
    4. Lead team in daily stretches, daily reminders of microbreaks and encourage job specific stretches for each operation in your respective area.
    5. Complete weekly PBSO and drive those observations to KPI actions which assign an owner and completion date.
  • Quality:
    1. Ensure team has access to standard work, tools, materials, fixturing, training and product specifications to produce a good quality product.
    2. Understand and lead team towards “built-in quality” not allowing defective product to leave the operator’s work bench.
    3.  Problem-solve and drive to the root cause of quality issues found internal and external to the department.
    4. Establish and strengthen supplier/customer relationship with neighboring processes.
    5. Audit key product characteristics for quality defects daily.
    6. Track daily quality defects and drive KPI actions which assign an owner and completion date.
  • Delivery:
    1. Ensure schedule adherence through coordinating team to meet all specific customer demands and eliminate overproduction waste by helping drive process improvements.
    2. Communicate any potential schedule adherence challenges with the planning team and work together with other team leads, your supervisor, maintenance, engineering and planning to implement the best solution.
    3. Make adjustments to team member activities and work hours to meet demand as needed.
    4. Increase departmental stability by utilizing cross training to ensure all planned and unplanned absences are covered.
    5. Monitor material inventory levels to ensure that operators have all supplies needed to continue production and communicate any potential shortages before they reach a critical level.
    6. Identify and maintain healthy WIP levels to ensure the flow of product through the area.
    7. Participate in and lead change-based initiatives which aim at improving processes and increasing efficiency.
    8. Identify potential future delivery related challenges and drive them to KPI actions which assign an owner and completion date.
  • Cost:
    1. Drive departmental efficiency by finding opportunities to minimize hours per unit through process improvement, continued training, improved quality and strategic operator utilization.
    2. Reduce excess WIP levels in areas which have an overaccumulation of product.
    3. Identify opportunities to reduce rework and scrap and drive KPI actions which assign an owner and completion date.
    4. Identify opportunities to reduce material waste and drive KPI actions which assign an owner and completion date.
  • People:
    1. Exemplify Gibson Core Values(Dependable, Authentic, Empathetic, Growth Driven, Bold and Engaged) in all daily interactions and strive to instill those values in all team members.
    2. Hold daily start up meetings with team which cover relevant information about safety, quality, daily/weekly goals, announcements, HR communications and collect relevant feedback from the team.
    3. Clearly communicate expectations to team members hourly, daily, and weekly as needed.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma Or GED required.
  • Woodworking and guitar experience is a plus.
  • Must be able to work independently, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and organize workload to meet organizational timelines in a fast paced, very high-growth environment.

Physical Demands:
