Baldwin Artist Marian McPartland is BET JAZZ Artist of the Month
Marian McPartland is being featured as the September Artist of the Month on the BET JAZZ cable network in a special program of interviews with host Marsha Parker. McPartland discusses her 60 years in show business and her celebrated career as pianist, composer, and renowned radio host of National Public Radio's "Marian McPartland's Piano Jazz," which she has overseen for 25 years.
"Marian McPartland's Piano Jazz" was first broadcast on National Public Radio (NPR) in 1978. The hour-long show features McPartland collaborating with a wide array of guests, both established jazz masters and fledging artists. Norah Jones, Dave Brubeck, Rosemary Clooney, Les Paul, Bill Evans, Oscar Peterson, Regina Carter, Lenore Raphael, Chuck Mangione and Clint Eastwood are just a sampling of the artists who have been on the show over the years - several hundred artists in all.
Marian has been a Baldwin artist for over 25 years and uses two Baldwin SF10 Artist Grand pianos for tapings of "Piano Jazz."
The show has been running on BET Jazz and will conclude on September 30 with three time slots, 8 a.m., 4 p.m. and 10 p.m. EST.
Every Tuesday, NPR provides a Piano Jazz show to radio stations, which can then broadcast it any time within the following two weeks. Air times vary widely across the country. Check the Piano Jazz station list here for air times in your area.
